County Basketball Crown Claimed By San Saba in Final Victory
In a two day rural county tournament Bend and San Saba emerged after close showdowns. San Saba defeated Richland Springs 23 to 13 to capture the county title and earn a spot in the district meet. The final featured strong defense, key fouls, and sportsmanlike play as listed: San Saba line Murray Wood E Wood, Mayes, Dacus and Richland Springs lineup with substitutions and referee Williams of Brady.

Mrs S C McCarley slipped on the ice while passing the back steps last Saturday and suffered a broken hip joint. The wound is very painful and she has been confined to bed since. The sleet and snow marked the period as the only serious mishap. Mr Ed F Allen Jr and his wife, Southwestern University students, were guests en route to visit their parents in Lubbock.

Rotary Club Praises Local Boy Scouts Banquet
The Rotary Club hosted a banquet at Hotel San Saba honoring the local Boy Scouts. 15 lads earned advancement badges and 94 merit badges were awarded as Scout Executive Jack Brumberg praised Rev R K McCall and the troop. The club lauded the Scouts for their 100 percent attendance and good deeds.

Palace Theatre Burned In Fast Moving Fire
The Palace Theatre, owned by W. C. Dofflemyer and managed by Clinton DeWolf, was gutted by a fire Friday around 4 30 pm. A brick from the flu and a quick blaze caused curtains and drapery to burn rapidly while fire crews saved surrounding walls. the remodeled venue was a total loss, with $10 000 in new equipment destroyed. Dofflemyer plans to convert the nearby First National Bank building into a new show house.

Old Fiddlers Meet Cherokee Friday Night
Cherokee plans an old fiddlers contest for Friday night February 15 with entries open to ages over 40. The coldest weather of the season swept over San Saba and Texas last Thursday night. Friday morning dipped to 14 degrees with sleet and light snow. by Tuesday noon white patches remained in shade. Stock damage was minimal, moisture and rain needed for fields, rivers, tanks, and the clear Colorado River contrasted with repeated frosts.
