First in Series of Appreciation Days Set in San Saba
A weekly Appreciation Day begins Saturday at 3 30 p m on the courthouse lawn San Saba with 33 merchants sponsoring. Community Treasure Chest tickets available from sponsors and those without tickets may obtain one by asking at the gathering. Sponsoring firms include Har ry's Department Store Watkins Pharmacy Brandenberger Equipment Co Farm & Ranch Store Modern Way Grocery and others. Webb Enterprises Radio KBAL and local banks help fund. Chamber of Commerce officials organize the events.

Jim Alexander Dies of Gunshot in Bend
J N Jim Alexander 78 of Bend died from a self inflicted shotgun blast. Graveside rites were held at High Valley Cemetery with Bro Clem Hoover officiating. Survivors include wife Mrs Ock Marley Alexander, a daughter Cy Terry, two granddaughters Patsy Alexander and Mrs Edwin White, a grandson John Michael Alexander, and two sisters. Pallbearers named Curtize Bozarth Horace Sargent John R McRorey Worth Parker Bill Sargent and R L Johnson.

City Tax Deadline Notice Without Penalty Extended
City taxes may be paid in February without penalty per city secretary announcement. A two percent penalty will apply starting March 1.
FHA Accepting Roughage Applications in San Saba
The Farmers Home Administration office in San Saba begins roughage aid processing under the drcula emergency program. County supervisor Sam R. Ellison says applications are due by February 15 to secure feed supplies for livestock through March 15.

Fem Cagers Tie With Lampasas After Close District Loss
San Saba High School girls basketball lost 47 to 61 at Lampasas to drop their district record to one loss. Suzy Gray and Estelle Millican led San Saba with 22 points each, Martha Terry added the remaining points. Betty Yearly topped Lampasas with 23 points. Lampasas pulled ahead late after a tight game. Brandenberger Takes Over Ragsdale Business and Franchises
Ray Ragsdale marks his first anniversary in San Saba by selling Ragsdale Implement Co. to Dayton Brandenberger. Brandenberger Equipment Co. will keep IH and Buick Motors franchises, with contracts awarded last week. Ragsdale stays on to help until June, then retires to Ragsdale Builder's Supply. Brandenberger, active in civic life and ranching, retains current staff, including Williams, Beckner, and the Beckners, with his sons assisting in the business.

Lindsey named assistant sports editor at Tarleton State J-TAC

Silver Wings Awarded to San Saba GOC Observers
The Ground Observer Corps post in San Saba presented silver wings to 30 volunteers for their Sky Watch duties. Bess Patterson received the first wings as the post activated on December 3.
