Members of the local American Legion post discussed a Turkey Shoot to be held this month or in March. L. C. Ward, adjutant, said committees are forming to solidify plans. Funeral services were held at Cherokee Methodist Church for 66 year old rancher William Glaude Sawyer who died of a heart attack at his ranch near Cherokee. Born May 8 1881 in Lockhart he had lived in the county 29 years. He leaves a widow two daughters six sons a sister two brothers and twelve grandchildren. 1948 License Plates Here in San Saba County
The 1948 Texas license plates go on sale Monday at the county tax assessor collector office. Eight plates were issued the first day. Plates have gold numbers on a black background and San Saba County receives 2100 passenger tags BT-4800 through BT-6899 plus 450 commercial tags MJ-2100 through MJ-2549. Farm, farm truck, trailer and dealer tags are also distributed with specific number ranges. Buyers with new cars between February 1 and March must pay the 1947 tax but may display new tags immediately.

County Library Opens In New Quarters
The San Saba County Library reopened Wednesday in larger quarters at the county courthouse occupying the former ladies lounge. An entrance on the southwest side was added and more shelving installed. About 25 new volumes were added since closing and about 100 books have been rebound, said librarian Winnie Brown.
