Beginning date set for new ACP conservation practice
San Saba county farmers and ranchers were told that February 15 is the recommended start date for a new ACP practice in 1954. The measure calls for establishing a permanent cover of perennial grasses on retired fields with seeds planted Feb 16 through Apr 30. Texas winter grass may be planted in fall. County tax records show 2,020 poll taxes paid for the 1953 year before February 1, with 17 exemptions. Local Juveniles Arrested For Burglary and Theft
Two 16 year old San Saba boys were arrested in Waco by Sheriff Barker after confessing to stealing two cars and burglarizing Harry's Department Store in San Saba on Monday night. They also admitted burglarizing the Meridian store and a combined station area later that night. The haul included a 1951 Chevrolet, a 1946 Ford, $142 in cash, clothing, and various items. They were returned to San Saba for juveniles court arraignment.

County Judge M W Trussell reports the State Highway Department allocates 285 000 for base and surfacing of U S Highway 190 from two to three miles west of San Saba to Richland Springs, covering 10 8 miles. Base and surfacing slated to start in April. bridge work and grading by Holland Page Construction Co. to finish by mid March or late March. Completion will seal the county's last U S 190 link.

Speeder Pleads Guilty in San Saba Court
A man charged with speeding 90 mph in a 60 mph zone pleaded guilty and was fined 63 dollars in Justice of Peace Court. Records show Judge Joe S. Clark presiding last week. Two drunks were fined 14 dollars each and another man was fined 14 on a vagrancy charge.

Stage Band from San Saba Visits Breckenridge
San Saba High School stage band led by Mr and Mrs Stanley traveled to Breckenridge on Sunday for an afternoon assembly. The group was hosted by residents that night and later attended a Teen Canteen. Seventeen students stayed overnight with Breckenridge families before returning to San Saba on Saturday morning.
