Welmaker to Be Baptist Speaker for San Saba Assoc
Rev. Ben H. Welmaker missionary to Colombia and former pastor at San Saba First Baptist will speak at the San Saba County Association Brotherhood meeting Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the First Baptist Church. Men from multiple area Baptist churches are invited to a 7:30 pm supper followed by a brief business meeting in the church auditorium. Women and other interested persons may hear Welmaker around 8:15 or 8:30 pm, per Ace Howell. Visitors should enter even if the meeting continues.

Cub Scouts of San Saba plan Scout Week activities February 6 to 12. They attend church services with Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts, display window displays at The Man's Store and City Hall, and participate in a PPA meeting on February 9. Jail Breaker Caught In San Angelo
Wekie Kanno a Mexican youth who escaped from Brady jail on January 7 was recaptured last week in San Angelo and will be returned to Brady or San Saba. Sheriff Barker reports Rando had been in San Saba jail about two months on a worthless check charge and was released to McCulloch county for trial on a similar charge. He escaped from jail the next day.

Coleman Burnham becomes bank president succeeding Lon g. Dosflemyer as chairman of the board. Other officers named include J. M. Mrs. Jarvis Carlile received a Sunday phone call that her husband Cpl Jarvis R. Carlile has landed in the States and will soon be home. He has served in Germany for ten months and will be discharged at Camp Chaffee Arkansas, then meet his wife in Temple. The couple has a young son, David, whom Carlile has never seen. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. taewia Carlile of Lampasas and his wife, the former Shirley Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Long.

San Saba officials report 1,217 residents paid poll taxes ahead of the February 1 deadline with three exemptions. The 1955 motor vehicle tags went on sale, with Herman Harper of San Saba first to buy a passenger tag, A. K. Terry first farm truck tag, and Robert Taylor of Taylor Electric first to get a commercial tag. Tags feature black numerals on a gold background and must be affixed by April 1. Owners bringing new plates should also bring current certificate and last year’s receipt. farm truck owners must file an affidavit noting title and registration details.

20 Mile Per Hour Speed Limit On Wallace Aimed
The State Highway Department authorized a 20 mph speed limit on East West Wallace Street through San Saba. It applies on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local traffic officer D D Gillstrap announced this rule. The 30 mph limit remains in effect outside those hours and days.
