The Cherokee Future Farmers Chapter shows 33 calves weighing an average of 671 lbs each after six months on feed begun July 25. Yates 50th Anniversary Observed at Wetmore Ranch
Mr and Mrs Ira G Yates mark their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their Wetmore ranch near San Antonio. Their nine children plan to attend. the couple lived in San Angelo for 26 years and in Pecos county before that. Mrs Yates was Annie Shockley Brooks before their 1883 Karnes county marriage. He is 74 and she is 72 with children spread across San Antonio El Paso Rankin and Vineyard among others.

Rat Campaign Is Planned for Town
The Chamber of Commerce discussed a rat killing campaign for the town and county. County Agent Scudder was ordered to contact a government agency to learn how to implement the campaign as a rat problem spans the area. Mrs. Boon Christy, recently released from a Temple hospital after a two week stay, is convalescing at home.

Good Man and Old Pioneer Passes On
T Y Parham a pioneer of this count died at his daughter's home in the Neal community Monday morning January 30. Born January 7 1851 in Virginia he moved to Texas about 1875 settling on Wallace Creek in San Saba County where he married Mary Parker. Funeral services were held at Bodkin Little Funeral Home in San Saba with Reverends Thomson and Rowland officiating and burial followed in Wallace Cemetery beside his wife. He is survived by two children Mrs J G Adkinson and Bertie Schultz nine grandchildren and several relatives. Pallbearers were Frank Maas Ernest Conner Osborn Mullins Clyde Hayes W E Martin and John McKown.

Wardrobe Demonstrators Set Feb 4 Meeting
Twenty four wardrobe demonstrators from San Saba county will attend a foundation pattern school at San Saba High School on Saturday February 4 starting at nine in the morning. Misa Vida Moore of the Home Economics department will assist the home demonstration agent and demonstrators. Each participant plans to bring lunch and take home her foundation pattern. Contest dresses for Rally Day in June are being made from these patterns. two winners will receive trips to the A and M Short Course in July 1933.

First Apportionment Paid to County Schools in 1988
The first payment on the 1988 ap portionment of state school funds has been received by county superintendent E G Hillman and distributed to rural schools and independent districts. Voc Ag students from Richland Springs Rochelle and Brownwood enjoyed a lively evening at Richland Springs featuring a rugged poll fight stunt described as great fun. Winners included Herschel Adams 110 to 120 lbs, Dan Neeper and Harold Burleson 180 to 140 lbs, and C B Wood in heavyweight. Brownwood team claimed 150 to 160 lbs. Refreshments and bowling boosted funds for their work.

Well Known Rancher and Minister Dies in San Saba
Rev J E G Hillman dies of acute heart failure in San Saba after attending Federal Farm Land Bank and county farmer meetings. Born February 20 1860 in Buena Vista Georgia he served in Marion County then Texas missions. He married Elizabeth Kuykendall in 1888 and had seven children. Burial in Kuykendall cemetery Cherokee with funeral at Cherokee Baptist Church and San Saba church.

Richland Springs hosts a county basketball event in February with plans to send lambs hogs and cattle to the San Angelo Fat Stock Show March 5 6 and 7. Vocational Ag students reported rapid sheep growth and shared marketing discussions from Fort Worth study trip. The rural class B A meet and eligibility requirements for rural and other schools were outlined for entry and fees.

A H Club Meets for Talk on Cuttings and Beds
The Algerita Harkeyville Club met with Mrs B Harkey last week. Miss Lorena Dry spoke on cuttings and beds and shared cuttings. Mrs Harkey’s yard was landscaped with evergreens and pruned rose bushes. Officers were reelected and twenty members and guests enjoyed punch and cake. Next meeting will be with Mrs W R Baxter on the second Wednesday in February.

Alex Eiler Dies In Base Hospital Fort Sam
Alex Eiler died in the Base Hospital at Fort Sam Houston on Tuesday afternoon. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. ph Hiler and a member of Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 American Legion. The body will be brought home under a Legion escort. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
