R W Burleson appointed to succeed J A Casbeer as city commissioner at a called council session on Wednesday morning. Burleson, cashier of City National Bank, is active in the Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Fair Association. He was recommended by a five member Advisory Committee from last April. Court House Roof Repainting Contract Awarded to Low Bidders

In San Saba County Interscholastic League meet last year Eva McNeill of Bethel school won the senior spelling contest while her sister Cookie McNeill 18 won the junior spelling title. They are daughters of Mr and Mrs Tom McNeill formerly of China community. Pictures of the sisters appeared in the Interscholastic League state publication for January. The county aims for greater IL work this year with teachers and Superintendent energized. spring meet expected to draw more contestants than ever.

San Saba Pecan Exhibit Move To Brownwood Fort Worth
J. E. Bell, secretary of the San Saba Chamber of Commerce, urges that San Saba valley pecans be left for exhibit and ready by February 7. After that date he departs for the Pecan Palace in Brownwood, aiming to have San Saba county well represented at the big pecan exhibit, with many prominent pecan men in attendance. The county exhibit will then travel to the Southwestern Exhibition and Fat Stock Show, arranged with the West Texas Chamber of Commerce which provides space for member organizations.

Willie York Loses Barn in Fire with 300 Bushels Corn
W S York of the Neal community lost his barn and all contents in a fire reported between three and four on Sunday night. The blaze consumed a large barn and more than 30 bushels of corn were destroyed. No cause or evidence was found.
