Local Boxers Enter Golden Gloves Tourney in Brownwood
San Saba County Chamber of Commerce Boxing Club to compete in the Golden Gloves in Brownwood February 8 to 10 under coach Jesse Miles. Five of 11 San Saba boxers fought in Brownwood last weekend with several securing wins. Notable bouts include Dalton Gossett with a TKO over Don Meador, Warren Townley defeating Johnnie Wood, and Salazar edging Slaughter in a crowd-pleasing light weight contest. Some fighters did not compete due to lack of contestants or other injuries. Miles hopes for a team trophy.

Church of Christ Has New Minister
E Paul Price moves to San Saba as the West Side Church of Christ minister with his wife Eva Fay Boatwright and children Larry 18 and Janice 9 arriving from Levelland January 25. He served Levelland church 18 months and preached in Oklahoma Arkansas and Texas. A World War II veteran born in Jacks County he later lived in Wichita Falls, his native home. The Prices express pleasure with San Saba and plan to integrate into the community.

Animals Leave Tuesday for San Antonio Show
San Saba county 4-H and FFA animals entered in the San Antonio Livestock Exposition will leave Tuesday for the show. County Agent Billy F. Kidd will accompany the group along with the animals. During the rodeo two county boys will compete in the calf scramble, David Behrens and Bobby Faris. Kidd will judge the De laine breeding sheep at the San Antonio Show.

Local Rancher Charged In Fight With Employee
Sheriff Brantley Barker filed charges on Wednesday January 81 of assault with intent to murder against Tom Alan Sloan a rancher after a fight with ranch worker John Eldon Franks 38 of Sonora who was severely beaten and hospitalized at McCloskey Hospital Temple following first aid. The incident occurred about 2 p m Tuesday January 28 on Sloan ranch about 15 miles west of Gan Saba. Franks suffered a broken jaw nose skull fractures and multiple bruises and remains in hospital awaiting surgery with a later report indicating improvement. Charges will go before the grand jury in March bond set at 3000 by Justice of the Peace Ward Ellis Jr.

City Posts $500 Reward For Vandalism Conviction
The City of San Saba offers a 500 dollar reward for information leading to arrests and convictions of anyone damaging public property. Screwworm fund boosted by San Saba county gifts
About 200 San Saba livestock owners contributed 8175 35 to the screwworm eradication fund as of January 26. County Chairman T N Wong said if the eight million dollar voluntary goal is reached soon, the drive could save two hundred million dollars in losses and treatment costs over two years, with up to a 50 percent cost reduction for the program in 1962. The drive runs to February 14 with a statewide kickoff in Austin and a call for broad participation.

Rites Held For E. L. Oliver County School Superintendent
Funeral services for E L Oliver 72 longtime county school superintendent were held at First Baptist Church with Rev Sam D Taylor and Dr R C Tennison officiating. Burial followed at Harmony Ridge Cemetery Howella Doran Funeral Home in charge. Oliver died January 29 after a heart attack at San Saba Memorial Hospital He was born February 11 1889 in San Saba and married Jackie Dennis Owen in 1914 He served as a rural teacher and later as county school superintendent since 1939 with one four year gap He was a Baptist and active in educational associations Survivors include wife daughter several Oliver relatives and many grandchildren Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named.

RS Firemen Answer Call To Adams Home
Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Adams home in the northeast part of town around 1 p m Saturday January 27. An electrical fire started in the kitchen ceiling from a short and spread along the light cord. Mrs Adams alone at the time noticed the blaze and shut off the current which likely saved the house. No water damage occurred. smoke damage was noted and the wiring will require full replacement.

Deadline Set For Cotton Allotments March 30
