A local Trades Day on February 0 in San Saba Texas features a 2:30 PM drawing announced by the chamber secretary. Numerous donors offer merchandise cash prizes and services including lamps clothing food items and hospitality draws for residents and visitors.
An Income Tax deputy will assist the public in filing 1922 returns. The deputy will be at the courthouse during February 10 to provide free help and guidance for taxpayers.
The News announces an all day cemetery work session at Wallace Creek cemetery on Wednesday February 7. Residents are urged to bring working tools. Mrs M Story of Eastland visited Mrs Andrew Locklear last week at the ranch.
F. A. Townsend sold his tailor shop, housed in the Clark building for years, to Casbeer and Shook, a new gents' furnishing firm. Townsend thanks patrons, plans to stay in San Saba Texas, praising the town.
M M Means visited town Saturday and credited his wife with the best turkey hen. The family sold 78 dollars worth of turkeys last November. Saturday they added 13.60 dollars in sales and still have the mother hen and eight daughters for this year. Rev R R Cumbie Baptist pastor at Pecan Grove, a Howard Payne College student, plans a returned Brazilian missionary visit the fourth Sunday in February.
Senator Capper of Kansas welcomes Senator-elect Earl B. Mayfield of Texas to the farm bloc. Capper says there is little talk of a fight over Mayfield and expresses confidence he will hold his seat. Mayfield reports no signs of attempts to block seating and notes his credentials were filed without objection. Capper urges unity for a strong agricultural agenda in the next Congress.
W F Sullivan and W B Biggs buy the one third interest of partner W H Hinyard in the hardware business after ten years. The firm will operate at the same stand in its own building. Biggs has spent his life in hardware and both men invite friends to visit.
Austin Texas January 23 The bill in the senate by Senator J W Thomas of Rogers Bell county to replace hanging with electrocution for capital offenses was favorably reported by the criminal jurisprudence committee. The measure follows the Hornsby case and governor Neff refused clemency despite petitions. The bill's supporters note Thomas campaigned to locate the electric chair in the state penitentiary to avoid local discord. Action is anticipated this session. Major Kimbrough and County Clerk Arch Woods suffered recent illnesses described as the fly.
Casbeer and Shook arrange to install an up to date tailor shop with gents’ furnishing. They employ Fred Townsend to oversee all work. The shop will be behind their store with ample room. The penmen are known to San Saba people and seek a liberal patronage.
R. J. Edwards of eastern townships raises White Leghorn chickens and has hatched 406 chicks with three incubators running. He invites visitors to inspect the incubator and brooder at his home and explains the Buckeye incubator for sale with firsthand information on its workings. News ads get results.
Postmaster J E Carson will relocate the Post Office this week to new quarters in the Clark building on Wallace street. The ten year lease is in place with the owner furnishing all steel furniture with mahogany finish and marked windows for every department. Arrival of furnishings occurred last week and carpenters expect to finish by week’s end. The office includes a full line of mail boxes and drawers. Adequate light ventilation and a large work room accompany the move.
W H Hinyard leaves his hardware business to become active vice president of San Saba National Bank starting February first. A well known county figure he has served on the school board and as City Commissioner, and sits on the bank's board of directors.
A. I. Fabis, head of pecan insect investigation, will soon visit San Saba County with assistants to spray and inspect pecan orchards. The team will cover San Saba, Richland Springs, and Bend, spending a week or more in the field before possible additional trips to other pecan areas.
