New Hotel Stock Proposal Moves Forward at Meeting

At a Tuesday stockholders meeting John Seiders was named temporary chairman and Mitch Johnson temporary secretary. A committee including R W Burleson Clarence Gosch and R R Low was formed to sell the remaining stock and invite helpers. They aim to fund a 25000 dollar hotel near fireproof standards and near completion before the county fair in August.

City Road Tax Due and Other Local Notices

San Saba residents may pay 3.00 for road and street duty receipts for the coming year before February ends. After that, 5.00 or five days work. Burney Brass and D Chadwick, City Marshal, handle receipts. Also reports Mrs Harris taken to Temple for operation with Mr Harris. A 1768 Newmarket horse riding feat is noted: a woman rode 1,000 miles in just over 333 hours.

Reunion of Mountain Remnant Brigade Camp planned next August

General A R McInnis of Liana visited the fair grounds park and gave hearty approval for the Mountain Remnant Brigade U C V reunion to be held next August. He is the commanding officer and pleased with the time and campground location. Details of the program will be announced later.

Notice to Contractors for San Saba Disposal Plant Bids

Bids will be received until 12 o'clock Monday February 12 1917 for the construction of a reinforced concrete Disposal Plant for San Saba County. Plans may be had by applying to W V Dean County Judge at his office in the court house. The usual rights are reserved to reject any and all bids.

Belgians, Beliefs, and Belgian Relief Fund Appeals

The piece argues aid to Belgium and France dwarfs by U S generosity, noting $8,000,000 raised domestically while England and France contribute $9,000,000 monthly plus British colonial funds. Coggin Waith school destroyed by morning fire

Brownwood reports a fire nearly destroying the Coggin Waith school on Coggin Avenue shortly after four yesterday morning. Dairyman Napoleon Pinson first saw a light in a west room before flames spread. origin remains unknown though suspicions point to a stove from the hours. The 24 year old building left only ruins with the cracked bell prominent among the debris. Insurance totaled $8,000 on the building and $1,000 on furniture.

Treaty Rocks On Wallace Creek Historic Relics Urged

Reader Douglas Smith urges preserving treaty rocks on the old Lee Wilson place owned by O B Andres. inscriptions mention Delawares Phawnees Cherokees and other tribes. He and Lloyd Reynolds mourn a Brownwood death and call for public display in a courthouse or museum setting.
