Watt Brown's Grocery celebrated longtime town fixture
Watt Brown, owner of Watt Brown's Grocery on the north side, reflects on 28 years in business since Aug 1, 1924, recalling a start with a $17.10 capital loan from a bank. Born in Erath County on Nov 25, 1902, Brown built a life around grocery work, receiving two Texaco awards for long service and planning a 30 year watch. He and his wife Vera Taylor Brown raised two sons, Perry and Billy Watt, while he valued helping boys start in work. The store endured floods and relocation before settling in Highland Addition, with family and staff joining in the celebration.
