Funeral services for R L Crain 41 of San Saba were held at Wallace Creek Cemetery. A World War II veteran who died from burns at St Joseph Hospital Ft Worth, he worked as a cement finisher in Irving. Survived by widow, stepdaughter, parents, five brothers and six sisters. Howell Doran directed arrangements.

San Saba schools won the district trophy in the 1949 Interscholastic League literary events, Supt. W. M. Campbell announced. State Representative Peppy Blount has accepted an invitation to pitch for the San Saba All-Stars against the Austin All-Stars this Saturday at Memorial Softball Field start time 1 o clock. Reserved seats are on sale at Parker Pharmacy with proceeds funding road improvements to the field. The season opened last Saturday with Lampasas High beating San Saba 7-4 and Reuben Ashley's All-Stars defeating Tom Taff's 7-1.

County Commissioners Court held a tied vote over farm to market road funds for two year program starting September 1, 1949. Proposals included 10 miles west from Cherokee to Wallace Creek, then 5 1/2 miles on Pecan Grove road, 1 1/4 miles to Wallace Creek, and 8 miles from FM 45 toward Locker.
