Central Texas Loop Blows Ltd urges San Saba residents to invest in homes as a foundation for a strong community. Jim Isham reported the largest hen egg yet produced on his San Saba County farm last Saturday. A Jumbo type egg weighed about 1.5 ounces and measured 7 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches with a perfect shell and rich color, found under the house though no turkey could fit there.
Mr and Mrs T S Walker traveled from Los Angeles California arriving Saturday to see their father C D Kirkpatrick and other relatives in the old San Saba home.
The San Saba County Wolf Club calls its annual meeting at the court house next Saturday at 2 PM. It notes past depredations on sheep and poultry have diminished thanks to members’ efforts, urges continued work, and asks members to pay a per-acre tax to fund ongoing action while Liiano county neighbors lag in joining the fight.
N ok. Scadder attended the Brownwood County Agents and poultry breeders meeting with ERRL Cameron. They returned enthusiastic. W R Shelling of the Farm Relief Board spoke on cooperative marketing and government financing. Tentative plans began for forming a Texas organization.
Curtis Lanham reported that mesquite trees in the valley appear dead from the winter freeze, with brittle limbs, especially on mistletoe-slung trees, while live oaks also show many dead. Older trees fared worse than younger bushes, and mesquites often do not bloom until frost danger passes.
In the Inter scholastic League opener at Fair Park, San Saba Armadillos defeated Fairview NcCulloch County 9 to 6. San Saba hosts Lohn at Fair Park tomorrow then travels to Rochelle Saturday. E Taft and R Hartley led San Saba. Patterson and Jonathon played for Fairview. Burleson reports 22 of 29 living class of 1895 members attended A&M reunion. Arthur Duggan identified among attendees.
Comanche Texas hosts a Pecans Men’s Program at the Methodist church with sessions on pecan history, planting, nursery stock, and orchard management led by local and regional experts. Speakers include J M Bond Lynn Trightower Bill Millican O Gray D Moore Russ Wolfe and President F Denny.
Chester Harrison spoke extemporaneously at the Rotary Club lunch last Thursday, sharing business and public service insights on world peace and Rotary ideals. Brownwood banker and former secretary to Congressman Jas Slayden highlighted his experience, with Will Latham and guest W. M. Robison in attendance as records were set by four new squad captains: Clarence Gosch, Carl Jones, Will Kirkpatrick, and Bill Kimbrough.
Ras Thorp sold the Radio Electric Shop in the Kirk building on Wallace street and saved possession for April 1. J Q Ragsdale, long associated with the shop, will continue operations. He asks old patrons for continued support and welcomes new customers. Also noted is W J Millican of Bend in town to assist with pecan tree work in Dallas, accompanied by his daughter Veo.
Early Monday a beautiful Patton farm home was burned to the ground with all contents lost while the couple was away. Neighbors spotted the blaze a veritable holocaust before anything could be saved. The Pattons had recently improved the property and the origin remains unknown after no fire since Sunday morning.
The official board contracted Dallas builder J. R. Ray to erect a modern church building on Wallace Street. Bare building price is 14500 dollars, with seating and fixtures expected to total about 18000 dollars. Construction to start once details are settled and delays avoided.
Pe can Grove community presents Deacon Dubbs a three act comedy at the tabernacle Tuesday night April 11 for Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 benefit. All home talent, adults 25 cents. a pleasant evening for a worthy cause. Everybody invited.
The Woman's Missionary Society of the Llano district of the West Texas Conference will hold the district meet and the zone meet at First Methodist church in San Saba on Tuesday, April 22. Delegates and visitors from every church in the Llano district are expected, with preparations under way to give them a hearty welcome. Sunch will be served in the church basement.
Mr and Mrs T K Dismuke report two of their children in Temple hospital for emergency surgery and subsequent recovery. Tom Dismuke underwent an appendectomy Monday and was said to be resting well. W R Dismuke followed Tuesday with his wife at his side, and the family remained with both boys as they recover. Mrs A J Wise of Moran visited her sister Mrs W F Luckie earlier in the week and returned home after seven weeks in San Antonio and the Valley.
Temple will host one of the largest Rotary 41st district conventions in years on April 23-24. District Governor Bernard Bryant praised Temple’s facilities including two new hotels and a $150,000 municipal auditorium. The event will feature golf, a big opening banquet, and a program with vocational addresses, with Rotary Annes avoiding morning entertainment to attend. Advance registrations are handled by Dr. R. T. Wilson in Temple.
Sheriff J N Graves is asked by Civilian Aid to the Secretary of War to act as 58 county chairman for the Military Training Camps Association in Texas Our San Antonio district area youths gain from the CMTC summer camps with no cost to them, all expenses paid while training and educating.
Gov. Dan Moody granted a sixty day furlough to Allen Crain so he could be with his ailing wife and three children. Crain expressed relief at reuniting with family and friends and pledged to remain faithful and punctual during the furlough.

The Central Texas amateur league schedules San Saba to face Belton Blues at San Saba Fair Grounds Park in the opening game Sunday. Local players signing up include P. Smith and E. Maxcey among others, with A. B. Puckett as temporary manager. The league caps at 16 games in the first segment ending July 15, with 24 clubs in play. The Richland Springs Methodist church Men's Bible class will visit the first Methodist church in San Saba next Sunday morning to meet Hon. G. A. Walters class. Walters urges his class members to attend and welcomes all men. The Walters class will meet Easter Sunday with the Methodist church in Cherokee.

Mrs F P Hamner is delegate with Mmes Harry Wayland and W I Kimbrough as alternates, escorted by Rev F H Hamner. Other members traveled to Brownwood to visit Mrs Z E Parker in the hospital, wife of a former Pecan Grove pastor.
