The second fiddlers relay will be staged at Cherokee next Friday night. That is tomorrow night, April 5. Jim Hillin and his committee have the plans all made and things set for a greater occasion, even, than when the old timers were on deck. The world is invited to Cherokee Friday night.
Houston Hunter and family left San Saba last Saturday for a new home in Roswell New Mexico. He has been the rural mail carrier on Route One out of San Saba for eight years and is praised by patrons for faithful service in all conditions. A. D. Wallace will take over route one, while Hunter moves to a Mounted City route.
The San Saba Poultry Association offers member protection from theft with a life branding method. Members record personal poultry brands with the secretary, applied by tattooing the brand on the bird. The technique aims to deter thieves and safeguard large flocks, including roaming turkeys, marking a progressive step for San Saba county poultry. Mrs. Walter Ford of Austin visited her parents in San Saba last week, with a short trip home afterward.
The foundation is laid for a 20 by 100 foot business building by Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Cowan on the south side of the public square. It will feature a modern plate glass front and be well ventilated with light. The building is already rented and ready for occupancy when handed over. A pavement demand for the square grows alongside these improvements, signaling further town development.
The Simmons Drug Store display showcased the county's best Interscholastic League event last week with exhibits from Bethel and Henry school students. A full roster of contributing pupils will be released later.
Earl Avery of Llano, a prominent cattle dealer, was traveling to inspect cattle when his 75 Chrysler rolled in a ditch six miles south of San Saba. He sustained head cuts and other injuries but reached Luckie ranch before receiving medical care. A. D. Wallace arrived as rural carrier on route one and recalls old Richland Springs residents.
The Church of Christ hosted a unique lecture last Sunday by D Asero, an Italian missionary for the church. He is described as the only native Italian missionary serving this church.
Judge Thomas F Hawkins and C S Zellers of American Fertilizer & Chemical Works were in San Saba last week reporting regular car load shipments of the famous Bluebonnet Fertilizer are leaving San Saba almost weekly. The fertilizer is state registered and highly graded for field crops gardens and lawns.
The Baptists of San Saba report clearing their church debt of about 3600 dollars after pledges and gifts totaling the amount. On April 1 the final balance was paid by the treasurer. The church now plans to fund a building completion and future projects.
San Saba News notes D. W. Gaddy, proprietor of the San Saba Hotel, has opened a new grocery store adjoining the hotel. The well known local merchant invites friends and customers to call on him.
Sam Burk leaves his home in the fruit belt to enroll as a regular observer of the News. He notes San Saba county's diversification program includes a small flock of sheep on the Northwest farm and praises the land of watermelons and peaches.
Mrs. W R Payne was summoned to Lampasas on Saturday due to the death of her aged father who had long served as city secretary and in public life for fifty years.
The first county poultry meeting at Elm Grove schoolhouse drew strong turnout from Harmony and Cherokee. R J Edwards and W R Baxter led the San Saba County Poultry Association efforts with BE Browen and others while Elm Grove hosted a lively program and Chamberlain quartet.
A L Taylor and family from San Saba spent several days visiting relatives in Fort Worth from Thursday through Monday, sharing time with kin and local friends during the trip.
In the city election held Tuesday a total of 326 votes were cast possibly the largest vote ever polled in a city election. Hon N C Walker is the new Mayor and J Howard and W T Little are the new commissioners. The vote for each
San Saba produce dealers Brown and Bowers report the largest single chicken sale in county history. W G Moore sold about 400 hens for a $423.43 check, described by Geo W Brown as the outstanding poultry deal after 15 years in San Saba trade.

The venue promises beauty, comfort, and acoustics designed to avoid harsh echoes, with Vitaphone assuring top cinema entertainment.
H B Everett longtime local superintendent for Texas Power and Light Co in San Saba has been transferred to Llano. He and his family left Tuesday for their new home amid well wishes from the entire community. Everett showed strong interest in town progress and civic affairs.
Elder J B Miller of Richland will preach for the Christian church at the Cumberland Presbyterian building. The public is invited. Albert Grumbles was taken to Temple hospital for an appendicitis operation. Mr and Mrs Terry Crain and Mrs Emma Kuehn connected to local events.
The City Council completed a cash purchase of the San Saba Water Plant for 74000 dollars. Ownership transfer follows abstract title work, and the deal includes springs, the plant site, surrounding acreage, and the Wallace street building to house council offices and the fire station.
