President Roosevelt designated Fire Prevention Week from October 8 to 14 to inform the public of fire dangers and the toll of preventable fires. Fire Chief C C Copley warns San Marino residents against carelessness with rubbish in garages and around incinerators and urges inspection of incinerators.
Mrs. Robert A. Millikan wife of the noted physicist and head of the California Institute of Technology has been named local chairman of the women's committee of the 1933 Mobilization for Human Needs in Pasadena. The National Women's Committee led by Mrs. Franklin D Roosevelt aims to enroll between 500000 and 1000000 women in local crusades nationwide. The Millikan committee's personnel will be announced soon and will cooperate with Mrs Roosevelt.
Our boy and girl poets column invites Henry Huntington School students to submit short poems and sketches. Faculty cooperation will publish first efforts in the school page, spotlighting youthful literary attempts.

Dr Leo Harvey former Huntington Library research associate and Cal Tech professor sails from New York to Cairo to take the chair of history at the University of Cairo in Egypt. He is an Oxford graduate.
Byron H. Barnes of 1440 Mirasol Drive is selected as a member of the federal grand jury for the September term. The jury was sworn in by Federal Judge William P. James with William LaGrange Dana of 3120 Castle Heights Los Angeles chosen as foreman.
The Valentine family welcomed a daughter at Pasadena Hospital. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs W L Valentine of 1421 Wilson Avenue. Manette Valentine named the newborn in the brief notice.
John S. Boyd of Pasadena fell 30 feet when a ladder broke during reconstruction work at the Huntington Art Gallery. Companion worker Murray Gavel, also on the ladder, broke both legs and was hospitalized. Boyd’s body was taken to Hunt's mortuary in Alhambra. he leaves a wife and two children.
Louise P. White librarian at San Marino City Library introduces Book Notes. The Tribune previews polar expedition books now available and promises general library news and new book lists in this feature starting this week.
The Reader's Nomination Certificate invites readers to name a candidate and submit a subscriber entry with a $2.00 check to The Tribune. The Henry E Huntington P T A begins its season with a meeting at 2 30 p m next Tuesday October 3 in the Huntington drive school. Speaker Mrs Dot toressa Angela Caruso Spadea of the Italian Women's Club discusses Comparative Education. Radio star Mrs Lillian Sterrett Ginn will play piano selections.
Several rare maps are on display at the Pony Express Museum in Kewen Canyon. W Parker Lyon sponsors the collection with items from distant locales. A 1722 French map shows California as an island with Salt Lake in the northeast, and an 1846 Philadelphia map labels California as Upper California and includes Texas and Oregon.
