Former major league pitcher Tom Dukes headlined the San Marino City Club sports night at Southwestern Academy. The Arcadia resident spoke on baseball’s appeal, shared anecdotes from a 8-year MLB career with Astros, Orioles and others, and introduced Titan players at Huntington School event slated to resume October 17.

Titans Host Canned Food Drive At Titan Stadium

On Friday October 6 San Marino High School hosts a canned food drive during the varsity football game versus San Gabriel. Ex Dodgers Manny Mota organized aid for underprivileged Dominican Republic children. Bring canned goods shoes school supplies and sporting gear for free admission to the 7:30 p.m. game. Valentine PTA Country Fair Plans for October Saturday

The Valentine PTA announces its annual Country Fair will be held Saturday October 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Valentine School playground. All community members are invited for a day of games rides crafts and food with activities including Malibu Treasure Hunt Duck Pond Kiddy Swings two story Obstacle Course Giant Slide and Big Win plus Gone Fishin Bozo's Buckets Basketball Toss High Roller and other amusements. Punky's Hair Parlor face painting Spin Art booths and tasty grub will be offered.

Vivian Chan council President leads San Marino PTAs with team members Duncan SMHS Huntington Jennifer Streit Carver Jeanie Caldwell Valentine. She praises collaboration with San Marino School District to boost education and thanks teachers volunteers and staff. Chan, wife of Stephen, with four children Stephanie Vincent Stanley Vanessa, graduated CSUSA in Business Marketing and works as a Construction Manager. Police Association Pushes San Marino City Over Wage Row

San Marino residents back the police union in a wage and benefits dispute with the city. A Tribune full page ad and mailed surveys drew 689 responses from about 4,200 homes, many with identifying details. The Police Officers' Association says pay should be mid range versus nearby cities, while some residents note low duty risk. The city claims a 12 percent raise over three years or 16.5 percent total. The city manager and council have offered no counter-education to residents. Meanwhile, local recreation losses rise and a $65,000 park study recommends leaving Lacy Park alone and fixing the plumbing.

University Club Candidates Forum October 3 in Pasadena

The University Club of Pasadena will host a candidates forum on Tuesday October 3 starting at 5 30 pm for voters in the Pasadena area. Featured will Rep James Rogan and State Sen Adam Schiff in the 27th district race with other contenders Assemblyman Jack Scott and Paul Zee for the 21st district and Susan Carpenter McMillan and Carol Liu for the 44th Assembly District. The event enables the public to meet and question the candidates in a designed forum format.

William M. Caldwell Remembered by San Marino Residents

Longtime San Marino resident services tomorrow for William M. Caldwell after he left the American Cement Company where he held top executive roles. A USC former student body president and founding USC Associates member he served in WWII. Survived by wife Jean Bledsoe Caldwell. predeceased by first wife Mary Louise Lee Caldwell.
