Cal Phil at The Mill Ends Summer Series With Strings

The California Philharmonic Orchestra closes its Cal Phil at The Mill season with string performances led by Irina Voloshina Julie Rodgers Alexander Zhiroff and James Hanna. Rodgers showcases a 1697 Hendrick Jacobs-no violin as the ensemble delivers Bach and Beethoven with light humor from Voloshina and Hanna. The program culminates in Beethoven's String Quartet Op 18 No 1 with a relaxed tempo and a nod to Greensleeves as the season ends.

Valentine's Fall Fair At San Marino PTA October 2 2004

The Valentine PTA hosts a Family Fair themed The Magic of Childhood on Saturday October 2 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Valentine's Playground. Families will enjoy more than 35 game booths and attractions like the Big Slide Splash of Magic Candy Wands Enchanted Lollipop Tree and Balloons with prizes and entertainment for all ages.

A six member medical team from San Marino including four physicians returned from a two week trip to Xinjiang and Tibet in western China. Led by Dr. Kenneth Chan they supported an ongoing Kazakh Hospital herbal medicine project.

San Marino professor Phoebe Dea wins ACS undergraduate award

San Marino resident Phoebe Dea a professor of chemistry at Occidental College was named the American Chemical Society Award for Research at an Undergraduate Institution winner. The $5,000 prize will be presented at the ACS meeting in March 2005. Dea was chosen from 16 nominees for mentoring students and guiding undergraduate research nationwide. At Occidental she has supervised 116 student researchers with more than 100 presentations.

Man to bike 150 ride to aid MS research

Scott Covey, San Marino High School and Loyola Marymount grad, plans the MS 150 Bike Tour from Huntington Beach to Mission Beach in San Diego on October 2 and 3, 2004.
