Cal Phil at The Mill caps San Marino summer with string quartet

The Cal Phil at The Mill concert series closed Saturday with a Sierra Madre tone as Victor Vener introduced Sabine Vener Harvey and the California Philharmonic String Quartet. They performed Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Borodin String Quartet No 2 in D to an evening under stars on the Pomegranate Patio.

Chinese Club of San Marino to Host Annual Golf Tourney

The Chinese Club of San Marino invites players to its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Pacific Palms Conference Resort City of Industry. The shotgun start at 11 00 a m uses Calloway scoring with 120 per player covering golf cart lunch and prizes including a BMW hole in one contest. Trophies awarded at year end.

Athens Burrtec Win Waste Contracts in San Marino

Athens Services and Burrtec Waste Industries will furnish resident refuse removal in San Marino starting October 1 2003. Two providers chosen after an April 2003 RFP plus staff review and interviews, with five year terms and possible five year renewal. Residents may choose either firm and need not sign a firm agreement.

San Marino council hires lobby firm for library bond funds

The San Marino City Council unanimously approved a $10,000 fee to Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP to advise on applications and presentations for the second round of Proposition 14 library building funds. City officials say the backing will strengthen their bid while keeping the firm in the background.

Schools Foundation Kicks Off 03 04 Annual Campaign

The San Marino Unified School District relies on state funding for about 86 percent of its budget and faces a per pupil deficit of about 1000 dollars versus the state average. The Foundation Board raises its annual pledge to 750000 to fund about 14 teaching positions, with residents invited to donate and call 2997014 for info.

Reading Days with UCLA at San Marino Library

The San Marino Public Library partners with MCLS and the UCLA Athletic Department for Reading Days with UCLA a reading program for children. Pick up a reading log to track 10 books and earn a pass for up to four people to UCLA games after completion. The program runs September 15 to November 1 with events including soccer and volleyball.
