Enrollment of Stoneman and Huntington Schools was released by E C Neher. Stoneman shows 152 pupils in grades one to three and 29 in kindergarten. Huntington totals 453 with 420 in grades one to eight and 33 in kindergarten. Teacher assignments listed for Huntington and Stoneman.
The San Marino City Club starts its fall dinner meeting Tuesday at Henry E Huntington School 1700 Huntington Dr San Marino. Chairman C C Stanley announces an engaging program featuring R A L O Shel artists Castillo singing trio Fernandez Maureen and tango dancers. Col Wil Tupper of Whittier will lecture Between the Canal Zone and the Rio Grande. His travel and Latin American expertise promise a rich lecture. The club invites members and interested San Marino residents to attend.
The San Marino Tribune reports a new independent building at its plant, located at the rear. It serves as a casting room a saw room and a stock storage area enhancing operations and easing pressroom strain.
Mrs Ira C Batterree president of the Henry E Huntington P T A invites the executive board to her home on Virginia street on Tuesday September 19 at 2 o clock p m She will present the tentative program for the coming year The co officers show strong experience and executive ability in past endeavors Mrs Ernest Purdum first vice president is long involved with the P T A and brings patience and persistence to the role The article notes her husband is chief deputy to County Counsel Mattoon and oversees all school matters Continued on Page Two.
Five people sustained serious injuries after an early Sunday auto crash on Huntington Drive at Oak Knoll Avenue. Ambulance crews from Dubois transported the victims to Pasadena Emergency Hospital for treatment. The injured include John D. Rutledge Elizabeth Rutledge O H Schmidt Ruth Schmidt and Ed Mercer. Each patient received treatment for lacerations shock and back injuries before being released to private physicians.
At the City Council meeting Mayor Lacy announced the resignation of Harry L. Heffner from the Metropolitan Water Board. The mayor paid tribute to Heffner's splendid qualifications and service. Continued on Page Eleven.
The leaders’ class in Parental Education begins Thursday September 21 at 10 am in the north wing of South Pasadena High School. Under the San Marino South Pasadena Council of Parents and Teachers, supervised by Miss Pauline Gartzmann, the Pasadena education director, the 10 lecture course runs until just before Thanksgiving. Presidents and chairmen of local Parent Education groups are urged to attend.
A Stoneman Parent-Teachers Association meeting was held at Mrs. Leo Sievert home to discuss key plans for the coming year. Officers were announced including Mrs. Sievert as president and Mrs. H R Archbald as guest speaker for the first regular gathering on Tuesday September 17 at 2 PM in the Stoneman kindergarten room.
Harvey W. Joyce, City Clerk of San Marino, returns to duty at City Hall after a vacation in the High Sierras near June Lake with Lake Tahoe visits and stops in Sequoia and General Grant Parks. He jokes about not landing prodigious fish but says he did some Isaac Waltoning on the trip.
A social highlight and charity event at Mrs. Stanley Bent 1385 Old Mill Road features a Monday afternoon program from 2 30 to 5 00 in aid of the San Gabriel Welfare Association. Performers include Betty Dartnell cellist Caroline Painter Dorothy Ferns violinist and Margaret Bent soprano.
August set a near two year high for building valuation as permits totaling 146000 were issued. Plans include several large dwellings around 100000, and an 85000 extension to the Henry Huntington Library and Art Gallery. San Marino councilman and contractor William C Crowell has the new structure underway.
Press chairmen of San Marino and South Pasadena Parent-Teachers Associations will meet at 2 PM Monday at 1874 Euclid Avenue, the home of Mrs. John A. Shea. Mrs. L C Bennett is her assistant. Attending chairmen include Lina M Mason El Centro and Ben Henry Los Flores Marengo Thomas A Lanson Lincoln Park Hedrick South Pasadena Junior High Roy K Morse South Pasadena High School Gordon Auld Huntington W A Martin Stoneman Nelson Crow and Valeska Taylor Oneonta.
Chief of Police Ben Parker warns motorists to protect children on the way to and from school and to stop whenever a school bus halts. The rule is required by law and violators may be arrested.
