San Marino Boy and Girl Scouts together with the San Marino Fire Department invite families to a community expo at Lacy Park on Saturday September 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Experts cover power, water, sanitation, shelter, epidemics, pets and first aid while responders display equipment.
City Club tournament co chair Tom Santley announced more than 60 golfers will tee off at the 2006 event. The field includes nine women and the round is scheduled for Monday September 11 at California Country Club in Whittier.
San Marino Unified School District posts an API of 942, the highest among California districts, with San Marino High School at 922 and Huntington Middle at 956 as top regional secondary schools. Carver Elementary ranks 50th with 958, while the district emphasizes targeted instruction and home school collaboration.

The San Marino City Council unanimously approved a budget amendment of 11 million to fund a new public library, lifting total library costs above 17 million with a 14 million city contribution including 3 million to be reimbursed. Critics warned reserves would drop from 18 million to under 6 million next year and operating costs could rise by 375 thousand dollars, while the Public Library Foundation has raised 7.8 million and aims for 3 million more.
The San Marino City Council plans to vote on a 2 million loan from the Infrastructure Bank of California at the September 13 meeting. The 3 percent loan funds a new public library, with recommendation by City Manager Matt Ballantyne after a Tuesday special session.
Jenny Tyler a San Marino High School junior aims for the Gold Award by collecting used sports gear to aid underprivileged youths in Tijuana during Healing Hearts Across Borders medical mission over Veterans Day weekend. Donation sites include the San Marino Tribune St Edmunds Church and San Marino High School with a September 16 collection at AYSO Region 214 in South Pasadena.
