The Boy Scouts will run their annual waste paper and magazine drive on October 7 tying in with the city’s fall cleaning program. Thomas A. Batson district chairman says it is the good turn for the community. Cub Scouts Boy Scouts and Explorers will take part with area duties assigned. He asks San Marinans to save waste paper as it grows more valuable.

A district wide group named to lead the Hillings for Congress effort in the 12th district. Patrick J. Hillings, Arcadia attorney and WWII veteran, aims for the U.S. House seat. Campaign chairs and district heads were announced with divisions for the 49th 50th and 53rd districts. McCall praised Hillings as an American patriot and essential for Congress.
Bert W. Maxeiner of 2915 Woodlawn avenue died at home September 3. A Chippewa Wisconsin native who lived in California 19 years, including 14 in San Marino, he was a past master of Ionic Lodge No. 186 AF and AM. Survived by widow Mabelle M. Maxeiner, son Don Maxeiner of Temple City, and one granddaughter. Services conducted at the Little Stone Church in Turner with Rev. Russell J. Prentice officiating.

Charles R. Martin, president of the Young Republican Club of San Marino, urged residents to register by September 14 the last day for registrations to vote in November. The Los Angeles County registrar lists six classes of eligible registrants including new residents, name or address changes, and those turning 21. Deputy registrars and locations are listed at City Hall and several nearby streets.

The SS Felicitas and Per tu a Catholic Church opens its new school building to over 200 pupils for the fall term marking Rev. William Foxs twenty fifth anniversary as pastor since 1937. Sisters of the Holy Names and local teachers will instruct kindergart en through fourth grade with expanded facilities and a PTA active in planning.
San Marino reports August postal receipts totaling 8067 dollars, up from 5767 last year, a 40 percent rise and a new monthly high. Superintendent Mooar says all residential routes are now permanently established with a regular carrier per route, and two daily deliveries extend to the Chelsea business district.
Judge Roger Alton Pfaff of the Los Angeles Municipal Court will speak after the dinner the South Pasadena Oneonta Club hosts next Monday evening at the South Pasadena Woman's Club House. Pfaff, noted for traffic cases and featured in The Reader’s Digest, will discuss "Accentuate the Positives" and Albert J. Adams will perform his original piano arrangements.
Building permit totals for August 1950 nearly tripled August 1949 figures. The month tallied 801 775 dollars, with 22 new residences valued at 626 900, two commercial structures 37 500, 37 remodeling projects 66 947 50, and plumbing heating permits 70 947 50. Last August included 11 new residences 224 000, two commercial buildings 50 000, 33 remodeling permits 74 971, and plumbing heating permits 36 648.
Officials rush last minute preparations while three rooms remain unused for one to two weeks. Home economics will be ready by September 20 and an all purpose building at Stone man School is due by October 2 amid strikes. Registration is expected around 1650 versus 1578 last year and 1665 when schools closed last June. A local contractor notes bond money would have run short if bids were delayed, as only four classrooms could be built now.
