Funeral services were held last Friday for Frank E Cragin of San Gabriel who died August 28. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 57 years as chief clerk of the store department. He is survived by his wife Flor ence M Cragin, three daughters, three sisters, five brothers and ten grandchildren. Interment was at Calvary Memorial Park.
San Marino High School Titans Band directed by Charles Costarella will perform September 26 at 1 p.m. in the Los Angeles County Fair amphitheater during the inaugural Youth Band Jubilee. About 75 bands from across the state are expected to participate, with special facilities prepared for performers at the fairgrounds.
A thief entered a nursery at 2930 Huntington Drive last Friday afternoon and emptied a floor safe of 146 dollars while the attendant was in the rear. Police were notified at closing. The cash register with 200 dollars remained untouched. The next day the money bag bank book and one check were found in an open trailer at 3701 East Colorado, apparently discarded by the culprit.
San Marino Unified School District partners with the National Safety Council for the Back to School safety program as more than 3000 youngsters return to school on September 11. Motorists are urged to observe traffic rules, watch school zones, playgrounds and signs, and to help children choose safe routes to school.
Schools set crossing protection hours for students at Carver Stoneman Valentine SS Felicitas and other campuses. Officers will patrol Huntington drive and San Gabriel region from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. and noon, with schedules posted for each crossing each school day.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Lamb Funeral Home in Pasadena for Elizabeth S. Hemstreet who died at her Granada street home last Friday. She moved to San Marino from Chicago about a year ago and is survived by three daughters Ruth Bowman Monrovia Mrs Jerome Stulik here and Mrs Gager T Vaughn Western US Tll eight grandchildren and one great grandson.
San Marino Community Council will meet Tuesday at 7 30 PM in City Hall to approve the annual budget for red feather agencies. Budget committee members Allen Laws and others have filed recommendations after 66 hours of volunteer investigations of 23 agencies including Boy Scouts Girls Scouts Pasadena Child Guidance Clinic and Visiting Nurses Association.
Admission Day will be observed here next Monday with the public library closing. Banks will also be closed for the state holiday. Stores and City Hall stay open. The post office will maintain regular hours and deliveries will be uninterrupted.
