Fireman praised for rescue efforts in fatal car fire
San Marino firefighter Joe Bartak received top praise from Chief Thomas Almand for responding off duty to a car fire in San Gabriel. He moved nearby cars, heard cries from inside the burning vehicle, and after forcing a door open was burned while attempting to save three Estrada children who died in the blaze. Bartak suffered first and second degree burns and was treated at Garfield Hospital.

Funeral services were held in Pasadena for Ernest Ray Davis who died from a shotgun wound at his Oxford Road home. Investigators weigh whether the death was accidental or a crisis incident as Davis had been estranged from his wife Joyce and visiting the family.
