Gadbois Named To District Court
Judge Richard A. Gadbois Jr. was sworn in as a United States District Court judge in a private ceremony on August 31 with an induction to follow September 15 at 3 30 p m in Courtroom 1 on the courthouse’s second floor. He previously served on the Los Angeles Superior Court and Municipal Court after a long legal career including Deputy Attorney General of California and private practice. Gadbois and his wife Jeanne reside with their five sons on El Molino Avenue.

Olson to lead ABA dispute resolution committee again
Ronald L. Olson of Munger Tolles Rickershauser was reappointed to a one year term as chairman of the American Bar Association Special Committee on Alternative Means of Dispute Resolution. Olson has chaired the panel since 1979 and will push two multi door courthouse programs offering litigation arbitration mediation and other techniques. He holds many posts in LA legal circles and serves on several community boards. Kennedy Galpin will be honored by the American Heart Association for corporate leadership at a September 2 dinner in Los Angeles.

Estella Nichols of Pomona enters the Los Angeles County Fair home arts with hand painted China. She has won six Sweepstakes awards in prior fairs and has painted china ten years. Nichols designs with wax pencils, fires at 2000 degrees, and often takes three to four firings per piece. This year she enters twelve items with husband August Nichols, a noted cartoonist.

Suspect Arrested in Local Murder Case
A D year old Sussex England man was arrested in the murder of Gloria Black. Mrs Black was found in her La Vina Avenue condominium Sunday. An investigation linked the suspect to the crime via evidence at both his and Mrs Black's residences. He was arraigned at Pasadena Municipal Court. A memorial service for Mrs Black was held at San Marino Community Church.

Concert in the Park to Aid Schools
San Marino Rotary plans a Friday night concert in Lacy Park to benefit the San Marino Schools Foundation. The 2nd annual event features Dixieland and jazz by Tom Sullivan's Dixieland Band and Eagle Rock High Jazz Band from 7 to 9 pm. San Marino Police Open Color Darkroom For Crime Photo Lab
San Marino Police unveil a new color darkroom enabling color development and printing. Officer George Yankovich led the project with help from Earl Bliss and Roger Erwin, transitioning from a small black and white lab to a full color facility with Omega enlarger and color printer. Yankovich trained in crime scene photography, enhancing accident and crime scene imaging begun in 1980, with the lab expanding from a five by five foot space to a streamlined work area.

Fire damages roof of Lombardy Road home
Sunday evening fire damaged the roof of a single story wood frame home on Lombardy Road. Firefighters from San Marino and South Pasadena, aided by police, fought for four hours after embers from a vacant Orlando Road lot ignited the adjacent roof. Most damage occurred to about 4000 square feet of roof with water and ember damage to carpets and contents.
