Robert P. Joyce, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Joyce of 1181 Old Mill Acres, has been appointed third secretary of the nation in Panama. He has served five years in the foreign service, most recently with the La Paz legation, Bolivia, after earlier assignments in Shanghai. He completed high school and college in California, studied at Yale, then at the Sorbonne, and passed the foreign service exam sixth in a class of 155.

The Henry E Huntington Library and Art Gallery will shut public exhibitions from September 1 for two months to allow renovations and alterations. Botanical gardens reopen October 1 under normal rules, but art and library exhibits will not be accessible until November 1.
