The Chinese Club of San Marino hosted its 2003 Mid Autumn Festival dinner ball on November 1 at the Universal Hilton drawing about 700 guests including the entire San Marino City Council and School Board. The program featured local performers, world premiere by Tao Hsing Wang, and a 23-member line dancing group led by Nancy Yung. Dr Kenneth Chan served as Chinese Club President.

San Marino School Board Hears Salary Increase Comment
At a special session the board heard public comment on a teacher staff and classified employee contract proposal proposing 2 to 3 percent salary increases retroactive to September 1 2003 for teachers and staff and July 1 2003 for administrators. Speakers urged prioritizing the ongoing construction project at San Marino High School including locker room and shower upgrades for next summer. Dennis Kneier asked for a letter to be entered into the public record on his behalf.

Council Proposes Town Hall Meetings for New Library
The San Marino City Council will hold three town hall sessions to promote a planned library on Huntington and West Drives site. Councilwoman Betty Brown urged outreach to clear confusion as the city seeks Proposition 14 funding, with applications due January 16, 2004. A grant writer will help prepare the final request at about $20,000. The first meeting is set for January 15, 2004 at Kenneth F. White Auditorium and a second in February possibly with the Chinese Club of San Marino.

Janet Wong to Speak at San Marino Public Library
Award-winning author and poet Janet Wong will appear at the San Marino Public Library on Saturday November 15 at 3 30 pm. She has published Mina and Jake a story of friendship and Knock on Wood Poems About Superstitions. Wong, LA native now in Seattle, has appeared on Oprah and at the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Local Students Chosen for National Youth Leadership Conference
Marino residents Nuccio and Mar were selected for the National Youth Leadership Conference in late October. The six day event in the capital gathers high school leaders to study government, media, and global affairs with elected officials and officials, limited to 350 students nationwide.
Christmas House Volunteers Needed This Sunday Morning
Volunteers are needed this Sunday November 16 to construct the Little Christmas House at the corner of San Marino Ave and Huntington Drive starting at 9 00 a.m. The San Marino Chamber of Commerce project includes participants from the Chamber Boy Scouts Rotary and City Club. Dr. Ron Estrada, project chairman, says we welcome all volunteers new and old.
