The Municipal Affairs Committee reports Marino City Club approved posting notices on Malino Avenue to curb speeding. Members cited pedestrian safety concerns and referred the issue to its affairs committee for action, following discussion about a limit of twenty miles per hour and related traffic control measures.
The 1920 ballot will ask voters to decide if the Huntington Library and Gardens should be free of all taxation. The property, comprising about 207 acres deeded by KM Huntington to California, requires ratification by the state legislature. The Huntington estate marked Mr. Huntington's anniversary with a flag at half mast.
Residents in the area will decide which telephone service they wish to subscribe to, under a ruling by the State Railroad Commission. The decision affects Tele- Manger lines and the Pasa exchange, with applications expected soon and residents urged to exercise their rights.
El Molino a dramatization of the mill’s early days presented Friday at 8 pm by Pasadena Historical Society and Boy Scout Troop No 1 of San Marino. Adults join from Community Playhouse. cast features Rose Lucia Malin, Jack Ivey, Clyde Hurley, John Hart, Austin Hurley, Mary Hunsaker, Giles Hart, Richard Loring, Charles Matthews, Ralph Loring, Dan M Hunsaker, Harry Teeple, John McDonald, David Bodine, Jas Hurley and others.
A new school building for kindergarten and first four grades will start this fall on the site west of Granada avenue, on land bought from Mrs. Strasbury. About 100 pupils are expected in the first year. A bond issue to fund the project will be placed before voters, but no amount or polling date has been announced.
The City Council urged the school board to discuss with the County Librarian maintaining the local library branch in the school building. B F Mansfield said the board could allocate a larger room next year for the library, possibly the current opportunity room.
Harvey W. Joyce city clerk, in poor health for six weeks, underwent a serious operation and is recuperating in a Hollywood sanitarium. The city council granted him thirty days leave, then extended it as his health did not improve. Two weeks ago his condition worsened, and he was sent to Hollywood for surgery. friends report he is on the road to recovery.
Three social events showcase Miss Barnes as star performer with air maneuvers above the pool crowd. She completes repeated passes before the water carnival and later returns as a special guest with Mrs. Sarah Warren of Los Angeles, a flyer in the National Women's Air Derby.
The San Gabriel Water District won approval to build a reservoir east of the Rubio wash and south of Mirasol Drive on Duarte Road. A city inspector will supervise the project under E. L. Mayberry, who recommended ten plan changes. The 165 by 165 foot reservoir will feature a fill at its south end.
The San Marino Welfare Board approved a $100 expenditure for welfare work in the local grammar school and other welfare appropriations at its last meeting. James H. Jones of Monterey road was elected to the council and will chair the welfare committee of the San Marino City Club.
City Club board must publish findings on San Marino Rose Parade float entry. Directors to make recommendations before a vote on Flemming and Charles Lee Evans stance. Next meeting June 18 expected to settle the issue before vacation.
Miss Louisa E. Vance, aunt of Ira L. Vance of 1819 El Molino avenue, died last week in Selma California at age 99. A Civil War nurse, she later taught for sixty years. Born in Ohio in 1829 she came to California in 1870 for health. She met Lincoln Grant and Sherman during the war.
The local P T A will install officers for the coming year at the school auditorium on Tuesday May 4 at 2 30. Mrs Guedemann publicity chair reports Mrs H C Baldwin president district council will conduct the ceremony G Denwood Baker principal of South Pasadena High will address the graduating class Entertainment includes Boy Harmonica Band and Girls Whistling Chorus Refreshments with ice cream and cake All members and residents invited to attend.
San Marino City Club indoor base ball team, drawn from City Club members and residents, beat Highland Park Civic Club 8 to 4 on grammar school grounds last Saturday. The San Marino lineup featured captain J I Sullivan and players R W Meatheringham Ben Whitmore L Gibbs Ward Sanford W D Seay F J Haines Don Oster Claude Gaffney Norman Huff C E Hume Ben S Parker E V Clark Elmer Neher Ron Stever N D Huntoon and J Platt Brush.
The Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery in San Marino opens to the public by ticket from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays and on certain Sundays and Saturdays each month. Tickets issued in order of receipt with a limit of five per application and 300 admissions per day. children under ten not admitted.
