The San Marino Community Church Session unanimously adopted a resolution urging clergy and groups to address underage drinking. YMCA Top Executives Change West Valley YMCA Appoints Mercer’s Replacement

David Mercer leaves the South Pasadena San Marino YMCA after four years to join the West San Fernando Valley YMCA staff effective June 1. Robert S. Hogg, USC graduate student and former Pasadena YMCA employee, will serve as interim executive until a permanent successor is named. A garden reception for Mr and Mrs Dean L Maxson is set for Sunday June 2 from 4 to 6 pm hosted by Mr and Mrs Morris Pendleton of St Albans Road.

Huntington Friends Day Planned June 3 at Library

The Friends of the Library plan Huntington Friends Day on Monday June 3 with tours along the stream and paths beside the Japanese Garden. Guests will be greeted by library officials, and a special afternoon exhibit of historic gifts and books titled Lively Sports of Long Ago will be shown. The new Japanese Garden area opens June 4 with hours 1 to 4 30 Tuesday to Sunday.

San Marinan Woman Injured in Paris Auto Crash

Carolyn G. Smith 22 daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles W Smith of Vandyke road was seriously injured in a Paris auto accident. She was touring Europe after graduating from UC Berkeley last year. Her car collided at an intersection and she was taken to Salpetriere Hospital in a coma with head injuries.

Memorial Day will close city services in San Marino on Thursday May 30. San Marino Schools and City Hall endure the holiday closure along with the Public Library and Tribune office. Procery stores stay open. Huntington Library and Art Gallery also closed.

San Marino firemen on a Monday tower drill spotted smoke at 2260 Roanoke Road. They found a Bar-B-Q on a sawhorse smoldering, removed the roast, and contained the fire inside the home with no one present.

San Marino High School entries finished strong at Cerritos College CIF finals led by Nils Venge placing fifth in Class A 880 with 1 53.7 and Ken Lashley fifth in Class C 1320 at 3 15.6. Dennis Carr won the 880 in a CIF record 1 52.2 as Pasadena’s Larry Arnett was second. The San Marino season ends on a high note with two finalists and resilient performances.

Retirement tributes for Carver School principal Lena Jones

Cat Burglaries Reported and Suspect Arrested in Arcadia

Two burglaries occurred in the early morning hours at the Harry C Younger home on Chester avenue and the Hugh L Clary home on Robles avenue. About 280 dollars was taken. Wallets and purses were later found on the Robles address lawn. Robert Kim Collins, 22, of Arcadia, was arrested on burglary charges and parole violation. He admitted entering a Mobil Gas station on Huntington drive last Thursday and claimed the cash burglary occurred earlier.
