Final Week Push Prop K Backers Face Tight Vote
With five days left before the San Marino district election on Proposition K supporters and opponents express confidence. A two thirds Yes is required to approve a parcel tax of 1 to 3 1/45 dollars per year per parcel, set by the school board after public input, to cover a $600,000 budget shortfall for 1986-87. Superintendent Dr David Brown cautions the threshold is difficult but remains hopeful. Campaign efforts include two mailers and a phone bank targeting identified supporters, while opponents predict a loss and call the measure a luxury tax not aligned with community priorities. The outcome hinges on turnout and broad support from residents.
