A Sav-On Drug Store, formerly Louis Foods, will sell liquor beer and wine from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily after a Zoning Permits Section approval. The alcohol sales permit (hearing case 97103) was issued Jan. 7 and the store is expected to open early next fall.
In a Rotary luncheon address mayor Vince Filutze said San Marino is on track to meet about 60 percent of the 2013 Vision plan goals. He cited improvements in schools standards traffic and public safety while noting efforts on a planned West and Huntington community center and a drop in commercial vacancies to 8 percent retail and 11 percent office spaces. He highlighted city staff by narrating a slide show and thanked workers for their service.
National Geographic names The Huntington Botanical Gardens among the top 300 public gardens in the U S and Canada. Describes the Desert Garden as notably complete and highlights an in depth feature in National Geographic Guide to America's Public Gardens by Mary Jenkins.
A public groundbreaking marks the SMHS project with a ceremony planned for June 10. Officials from SMHS and local government will attend. The event aims to highlight progress and community impact of the school soon.

The plan was prepared by The Arroyo Group and Linda S Congleton and Associates at 70000 and cites a median household income near 100000 and 173948 for the affluent community.

TRIBUNE CORRESPONDENT four scouts from troops 351 355 and 358 were named Eagle Scouts at a Court of Honor held Monday night in Huntington Middle School Auditorium. David Aldridge Kevin Weeks Matt Pierce and Pao Yen Lin received the Eagle rank while Life awards went to Alex Keene Alex Lee and Hudson Hou and Ben Ying earned the Star award. Jim Gott presented the awards and spoke about the significance of the rank which requires about 22 merit badges and a community service project.
Ted Jones announces Terry Ryan will replace Judy Almond as manager of Cal-Am Los Angeles and Ventura operations. A 21 year employee, Almond moves to Monterey later this summer. Ryan, with Cal-Am since 1986, is operations manager overseeing San Marino Duarte and Baldwin Hills.
Lois Deines, longtime San Marino Public Library leader, is honored by a new gift books collection chosen by her and funded through a donor note. The library, enduring Proposition 13 cuts since 1970s, continues to run with volunteers and donated materials.
