The City of San Marino seeks an appointed city treasurer and two year Design Review Committee seats for residents. Apply to City Clerk by Friday June 18 1999 at 12 00 PM. Include the envelope notes city treasurer position or design review committee.
San Marino Recreation sponsors a June 16 excursion to view Goodwill Industries antique clothing in Southern California. The 28 dollar price plus 10 percent non-resident fee includes lunch and a fashion production of dated pieces from the late 1800s to the 1930s. Bus departs 10 30 a.m. from Huntington School/Women's Club lot and returns about 2 45 p.m. Call 282 6175 for more information.
San Marino High School receives a $330,000 award for 1998-1999 from a state digital education grant. Principal and teachers praise the infusion of about 100 Mac G3 computers, a server, printers, scanners, and video cameras to connect classrooms to the Internet and expand library resources.
San Marino High School announced its elected ASB officers for the 1999 2000 year. Gene Liu is president Elliott Henry vice president Simon Yang secretary Andrew Mark treasurer. Maureen Bryant on campus ASB coordinator led the banner reveal atop the new Math Science building. Additional board members include Brandon Iriye Chris Edmonds Laurie Millar Carol Huang Garrett Nunnelly Marcie Pastre and Grace Cheng. Incoming freshmen will vote in fall.
SMHS senior Glen Yang earns the Bank of America Achievement Award for Liberal Arts. The final regional final for Region 7 was held at the Ontario Hilton in May, part of a program recognizing California seniors from 1,200 schools.
The San Marino School District honors six retiring educators with a total of 167 years of teaching and administrative service across multiple schools and subjects, noting their shared commitment as they approach retirement.
The San Marino Schools Foundation named Colleen Fitzpatrick executive director succeeding Kathy Sweeny who leaves mid June for Mayfield Junior School in Pasadena. Board president Prane Feldon praised Fitzpatrick as well prepared to take the role, while noting Sweeny’s four and a half years of strong leadership.
Since mid March parents and volunteers have moved and prepared for San Marino High School's Grad Night 99. The 44th annual party theme Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory features dinner dancing hypnotist magician strolling-artisans karaoke laser tag gambling and games. Begins 9 00 P M after graduation ends 5 30 A M Saturday.
The library invites patrons to relive Star Wars on film and explore the new lights in the Mystery and new books sections. The public also learns about 2 day video loans for a $2 fee and summer boredom busting titles for children including Once Upon a Company a true story of kids starting a business for college funds.
