Woman's Club Inducts Six New Officers in May Meeting
The San Marino Woman's Club held its final meeting of the season on May 23 at Huntington School. Six new officers were installed by former president Mrs Clark E Beil, with outgoing program chair Mrs Morris D Schatzman recognized for an excellent program. Felix De Cola and John Remon provided a popular piano duet, and birthday cake signified the club's ninth anniversary as tea and coffee were served.

Write in Maurice Jones Jr won the San Marino Elementary School Board trustee race held Friday May 18 at Huntington school. Jones a Los Angeles attorney with ties to Scouting the Community Council and City Club, led with 566 votes to Morrissey 342 and Bussio 23.

Red Cross Mews Clarifies Free Services For Personnel
The American Red Cross explains that mobile units provide free food and drinks to duty personnel on trains planes and ships and to wounded or sick patients in transit or in hospital recreation rooms. Free refreshments are also offered during special events at Red Cross clubs both on and off post. Scouts of San Marino plan a comprehensive Court of Honor on Monday May 28 at Huntington School auditorium starting 7 30 PM. John Pendleton Troop 3 will receive the Edgle award in a ceremony by Mayor Carleton Tibbetts. Star and Life awards merit badges will honor many scouts with Lou Costello hosting the entertainment segment. Faynes Hollywood Strollers will also perform for scouts and families.

San Marino Guild Visits Battle Casualties at Torney General Hospital
Members of the San Marino Blue Star Guild of the San Marino Community Church visited Torney General Hospital in Palm Springs to hang drapes and distribute cookies in the sunroom and were hosted at luncheon by Lt Hilda M. Harrison and 1st Lt Arthur W. Reardon. Army Nurse Lt Marie Rediske spoke with Mrs Johnson as soldiers Pfc Ernest Molino Pfc Sam Rivera Pfc Mantell Scentro Pfc Cato Lopez were pictured alongside Guild officers and patients. Hospital welfare has driven the Guilds efforts including furnishing two sunrooms and holding ward parties and Christmas gifts for patients.

Warren Hopkins Dies In Alaska
Warren Daniel Hopkins, 37, son of Max R. and Winifred F. Hopkins, of 2164 Huntington Drive, is reported by the War Department to have died in Alaska. He had been doing government engineering work in the Aleutians for two years and was a Stanford graduate affiliated with Kappa Sigma and Palo Alto Masonic Lodge. He leaves a wife, two daughters, his parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Harry L. Warren and Mrs. Clarence L. Berry of South Pasadena.

Vacation Church School Set To Open June Twenty Fifth
Vacation Church School will run June 25 through July 6 in a Huntington school grove used by San Marino churches. Rev. William Cowans Rev. P. Martin Baker and Rev. Leonard Jones plan the curriculum with Jones as dean. Classes run 9 30 to 12 00 for children from kindergarten up to the district program age. The theme is Our Fathers World and uses materials from the Southern California Council of Protestant Churches Department of Education. Girls in the Lacy park Girl Scout program may attend without overlap.

The San Marino Cub Scouts Pack 4 held a regular meeting Friday May 18 in the Huntington School gym. New members Roger Russell Post and Ronald William Currie joined Den 4 and Den 5. Awards went to Mont McMillen, Kenneth Laws, and Jay Gurlick who earned Wolf, Lion, and Webelos ranks. Jay Gurlick received the Graduation Certificate and joined Boy Scout Troop 2. Sergeant Stewart spoke on bicycle safety and demonstrating handcuffs. Taps by Dick Rust closed the meeting. Cuboree details were available from Assistant Cubmaster Tompkins at Sycamore 9-1444.

San Marino Cub Scouts announced final plans for the annual Cuboree to be held Saturday May 26 at Lacy Park. Events run 1:45 pm to 4 pm with races and athletic activities for nine to 11 year olds, followed by a dads’ demonstration of the national pastime.
