The City Club met at Henry Huntington school cafeteria for its last session before summer suspension. Baron Fitts spoke on taxation reform in California urging reduced state spending on commissions and bureaus and noting inequitable tax distribution and water wastage issues.
Rev. C Rankin Barnes rector of St James Church San Marino departs June 3 from New York with Bishop Stevens as personal chaplain for the Lambeth Conference at Lambeth Palace London scheduled July 4 to August 9, sailing from New York in June.
The Henry E Huntington school hosted May month exercises last Friday attracting nearly 1000 spectators. About 525 pupils participated, dressed in spring colors and performing on the lawn with the school in the background.
F. Stanley Wood of 1500 Old Mill Road urges San Marino residents to observe Poppy Day this Saturday. He notes hundreds of veterans sick in Sawtelle and San Fernando hospitals and asks the community to remember and cheer them and their families as the tribute honors sacrifices in the war.
A second Parent Teachers Association unit will be organized to support George S. Stoneman Elementary School on Granada avenue near Huntington drive. The plan targets district pupils north of Huntington drive and west of Oak Knoll avenue in grades up to fourth, with a meeting notice sent to area parents before year end. Mrs. E. C. A Monday night gathering at the Shakespeare Club featured Col. Edward P. Batley presiding and reading letters from Admiral Byrd and Zane Grey. Major Merle Strange introduced speakers, including Col. John Dyre Davis who recounted the Custer fight and Wounded Knee, and Major W. H. Whitten of the Gurkas describing battles under three monarchs.
Mingenovitch and Gillespie were the low bidders for the Pasadena end of the San Marino sewer project with 34900 compared to 40999 by Floyd S. Lee Inc. Kristovitch and Wold won the San Marino contract at 33990 versus Harmon and Co at 34133.41.
