San Marino Council backs Prop K and state measure

The San Marino City Council endorsed Proposition 51 the insurance liability reform and unanimously backed Proposition K the local schools assessment to appear on the June 3 ballot. Suzanne Crowell and Paul Crowley led the effort as co chairs of Citizens for San Marino Schools. The council also extended Cal Am water franchise terms to year end pending further action.

Hass Named President of Winchells Division at Denny's Inc

Denny's Inc announced Carl E. Hass will serve as president of the Winchells Donut House Division and as a company vice president. Hass, a producer of financial analysis and cost accounting since 1972, has held multiple roles within Winchell's and previously worked for Coopers & Lybrand. He earned a BS from California State College Los Angeles and an MBA from USC. He and his wife Gretchen and their two children reside on Virginia Road.

Huntley Leads New Federal Family Strengths Program in SoCal

Shirley Huntley who holds MFCC and MA credentials heads a federal funded program in Southern California to improve family life. She will run the Building Family Strengths Training Workshop after selection from nationwide applicants for her work in marriage and family therapy and clergy counselor training. The UNL grant from Health and Human Services funds the BFS Project directed nationally by Dr. Lois O Schwab to address modern family realities with a positives focus.

Red Cross swim lessons signups offered by San Marino Recreation

Registration by mail for Red Cross swimming lessons through San Marino Recreation opens to San Marino Unified School District residents aged three and up. Courses run June 23 to August 29 at San Marino High School pool with testing on May 27 29 and June 3 5. Open pool hours 2 to 5 pm daily and a $1 daily fee or a $10 swim card for 12 afternoons. Entry forms for the July 4 meet available with deadline June 27. For information call 282-6175.

Chamber Mixer at Bank of America San Marino May 29

The Chamber of Commerce mixer hosted by Bank of America at 2424 Huntington Drive San Marino will be held on May 29 and is open to the public. On June 2 Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical Gardens hosts its annual open house for Friends of the Huntington, with 1 250 attending last year.
