San Marino residents face a bond issue and tax rate rise with polls open 7 am to 7 pm Friday. Citizens Tax Information Committee urges a strong yes to raise the maximum rate from 1.65 to 1.90 per 100 dollars of assessed value to fund schools and civil defense sirens installed around town.
Dr William Paul Krieg of Doresta Road died Tuesday night from injuries after being struck by a car on Los Robles Avenue near Mission Street. This incident marked San Marino's first traffic fatality of 1955, occurring 55 feet from the crosswalk.
Dr. Krieg, 64, of San Marino, died after stepping into a westbound car driven by Donna Barker Stefanos, 32, of South Craig, at the Los Robles and Huntington intersection. Witnesses say the car moved slowly with skid marks under five feet. He lived in San Marino 23 years and leaves a wife and siblings. Police discuss temporary and permanent fixes amid heavy east west traffic and conflicting turning movements.

Geoff D Griffin ten years old, fishing from Oceanside dock, hauled in a 90 pound blue shark with a fish head bait. Four men helped lift the fish from the water after it took the line just under the surface. This marked his first fishing trip since a leg cast was removed, and he plans to keep fishing for kelp bass, hoping for more small catches but unlikely to top this feat.

Alfred W. Hales of drive, a student at Flintz Preparatory School, scored 906 of 1000 to win first place among 528 high school entrants. He earns first choice from 10 college scholarships. Norman McLean of Euclid Avenue, San Marino High School, placed seventh and earns seventh choice of the ECE team plaque. Awards are to be presented June 39 at the Southern California American Chemical Society meeting with Linus Pauling addressing.
Los Angeles County health officials set May 23 as the tentative date for the second inoculation of first and second grade children with Salk polio vaccine. The plan calls for the second shot four to six weeks after the first, with a third dose seven months later.

Mayor Carson W. Ide will plant the first tree Thursday as part of Huntington drive strip beautification. Camphor and liquid amber trees will be planted in alternating groups of three from Granada to St. Albans, about 150 feet apart, with grass seeding by month end. Evergreen trees are planned at San Marino approaches for a Christmas touch.
Winner of this week's San Marino Tribune Bicycle Safety Contest is the owner of a bike with license number 4888. The owner may pick up a $1 merchandise certificate at the Tribune office. The certificate is valid in trade at Huntington Pharmacy.
Publisher and Mrs H H Mc Cormick of Virginia arrived at Largo Florida early this week for a three week vacation. They are guests of George Peck the American Way columnist and are traveling by automobile. The San Marino Tribune publisher is expected to return early in June.
Funeral services are held for Louis Carl Breer of Wilson Avenue who died Tuesday at San Gabriel Valley Hospital after a brief illness. He was vice president of a major Southland plumbing and heating firm for 35 years. A 1923 Stanford graduate, he belonged to the Jonathan Club and yacht clubs. He leaves widow Geraldine, two sons Louis Jr. and William T., a sister and a brother. Interment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
Mrs Clark E Bell of Circle Drive mourns her sister Miss Sarah Theodosia Muir who died May 3 in Lincoln Nebraska Funeral services were held May 5 at Wyuka Nebraska Muir was active in the suffrage movement and the League of Women Voters and ran for Congress and state superintendent of schools.
