City Council named June 14, 1978, as the hearing date for the appeal of the Planning Commission ruling allowing Huntington Library to expand parking and add a new gate. Several members of the Neighbors of the Huntington group join the appeal challenging the decision.
The San Marino Community Council holds its last meeting of the year at 8pm in City Hall Chambers with President Tom Elden presiding. The 88 local organizations vote on final disbursements from the Community Chest, aiming for the year’s $67,000 goal for 20 recipients. The meeting also covers 1978-79 officer elections and welcomes new members, with attendance limited to 3600 per day.
Memorial Day weekend reservations remain at 21 state park units. Central Valley units are mostly booked except some San Luis Reservoir areas. north coast and northern inland spots have openings. Southern California deserts offer sites. Some campgrounds accept first come, first served. Most use Ticketron computerized reservations.
San Marino high school prepares for Grad Nite on Friday June 16 with Peter Pan in Never Never Land. A 23rd annual event features an elegant dinner dance, games, prizes, and a transformed gym into a pirate ship scene with community volunteers, local clubs, and sponsors supporting planning and decor.
The San Marino Board of Education considers a proposal to add a non voting high school student as a board member. Doug Carter led a committee including Linda Turk Rene Troncoso Lynne Biggar Ken Gould Liza Weimian Susan Allen Betsy Wahle and Jim Bohannon. The plan outlines application interviews and appointment by the newly elected ASB with the student serving as a non voting observer at meetings.
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly meeting on Monday May 22 at noon in the council chambers of San Marino City Hall. The agenda includes a Chamber Mixer at Gibraltar Savings and Loan Association 2295 Huntington Drive from 5 30 to 7 30 p m and plans for July 4. A cordial welcome to the community is extended.
The San Marino Public Library and Friends invite the public to an Open House on Tuesday May 23 at 7 30 pm featuring Dr Robert Winter a History of Ideas professor at Occidental College. He will discuss 1920s architecture in San Marino Pasadena and Los Angeles area and is co author of A Guide to Architecture in Los Angeles and Southern California. A reception hosted by the Library and Friends Board follows the program.
Saints Felicitas and Perpetua Parent Teacher Organization hosts its first annual Variety Show this evening at 7 30 pm in the school's Social Center. Talent of every kind, including piano violin gymnastics choral groups soloists drums and guitar, will be featured with comedy acts by parents and skits starring the principal and faculty.
Carver PTA will install the 1978 79 board Monday May 22 at Mrs John Edwards home. Outgoing President Mrs Arnold Soderberg will preside one last time and Mrs Edward Frohman will install Mrs David W Allan as new PTA President. Frykrman to install the 1978 79 board. officers and committee chairs named for the year.

The San Marino Community Players present a family comedy The Man in the Dog Suit directed by Millie Mack at Huntington School Auditorium opening tonight at 8 p.m. Additional shows May 19 and 20 with tickets $2.50 at the box office and Ruth Martin at 284-4678 for details.
San Marino Recreation Department opens next week with a June 2 deadline for mail registration requests. Forms and schedules will be sent home to all San Marino students. Registration is open to children four and older in the San Marino Unified School District. Forms available at the Recreation office city hall library and school offices.
