Mrs. George R. Bell of Devonport road was elected chair man of the San Marino branch of the American Red Cross at a Monday Board meeting. She will serve from June 1961. The annual meeting followed the board session and included executives such as the committee chair and other directors.

San Marino High School Titans baseball suffered a 9-4 loss to South Pasadena before 1200 fans. Despite the defeat the Titans finished the season with 19 wins 2 losses and 1 tie, one of the finest records in the program.
San Marino officials host a series of meetings as decorations for the Grad Night event titled A Night in Venice come together. Organizers reuse materials from previous parties, repurposing them for the upcoming celebrations.

Professor Frederick W. Cropp of Illinois is named assistant dean on a half time basis by Dean J. W. He holds a PhD and a master’s from Illinois and a bachelor’s from Wooster College. Cropp has served on the Illinois faculty since 1954 and has worked with the State Geological Survey and Shell Oil Company. He will split duties between administration and geology teaching and research.
USC track coach Jess Mortensen addressed about 200 attendees at the ninth annual San Marino High School Track Awards Banquet. He urged youth to work hard, aim high, and foster a winning spirit, tying effort to success in sports, business, and life, and stressing church involvement.

Robert Cushman of Winston Road was bitten while bending to pick up his dog after it broke loose. The other dog, a tan Doberman like animal with a pointed nose, bit him near Sierra Madre Boulevard and Canterbury Road. If the dog is not found, Cushman faces Pasteur anti rabies shots.
Dean Clarence Manion former Notre Dame Law School dean will be first speaker in the San Marino High School Stadium Fund Committee lectures. Proceeds go to the fund to support financing the proposed new stadium.
Colleen Cary known as Miss San Marino will compete in the Miss Gabriel Valley Pageant on May 20 at South Pasadena High School. Sponsored by the South Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce, the San Marino High School graduate studies at Pasadena City College. Cary, daughter of Mr and Mrs Alton Cary, has appeared in the 1961 Rose Parade and water ballet shows and earned Ad-Fair Queen and Miss Air Force 1961 honors. She plans a dramatic reading for the talent segment. Tickets cost six dollars for the six lecture series held at the San Marino High School Auditorium with sales through Ed Brewster or Wyatt Bonner at Security First National Bank. Lectures feature prominent speakers from James Buckman to Senator Barry Goldwater and others, addressing topics of national concern. the fund committee urges wide community support.
Park Place resident Walter Van E Thompson received the Gold Shovel Award from Los Angeles Beautiful for planting over 900 street trees near Occidental College and Lacy Park. The report by Congressman John H Rousselot criticizes the Rules Committee expansion and questions federal overreach on the minimum wage bill affecting certain retail businesses.
