Congressman Jerry Voorhis says state department reports a word received is missing and believed lost. The ship Nerissa was torpedoed on April 30 about 1000 miles from a Canadian port, sinking with 122 lives including 11 US flyers. Collings and others were thought to be en route to England to fly bombers to combat zones. The Nerissa left an Eastern Canadian port April 25 on its 10th wartime Atlantic crossing.

City Council Revises Business Tax With Delivery Vehicle Levy
At a July 1 effective date the San Marino council adopts changes to the business license ordinance. Protests acknowledged as the council introduces a uniform $12 tax on all wheeled delivery vehicles, eliminating the $30 annual tax on trucks over 1.5 tons.

Mrs Howard W Seidell was elected president of the San Marino Garden Club for 1941 42 at Tuesday morning’s monthly meeting held at the home of Mrs Alexander Robertson 605 Winston Avenue. San Marinans bought 1350 in U S Savings Defense Bonds from May 1 to May 12 at the San Marino Post Office. Largest sales are in 25 and 50 denominations. The post office sells bonds from 25 to 750 with stamps 10c 25c 50c 1 00 and 5 00. Bonds mature in ten years with 2 9 percent interest compounded semi annually. Bonds can be redeemed after 60 days with no interest until year one.
