Since mid March parents students and community volunteers have assisted the Grad Night Committee to build paint and prepare for Grad Night 98 Also known as Peter Pan the event will run June 12 from 9 p m to 5 30 a m following graduation ceremonies The committee meets Saturdays 9 a m to 3 p m and Wednesdays 9 a m to 1 p m at Wells Fargo Bank parking structure through May and will move the set to San Marino High School gyms in early June Volunteers are needed including parents of freshmen sophomores and juniors photographers security card dealers and more Contact Grad Night Chairman Liz Kneier at 626 578 1109 for details.
San Marino prepares Channel 19 to broadcast June 1 via Time Warner Cable under city oversight. Jon Bell, SMHS graduate and TV instructor, will run day to day operations while students gain hands on learning in an education government outlet with a sub $20,000 annual budget.

The historic George S. Patton estate known as Lake Vineyard II, birthplace of General Patton born November 11, 1885, has sold after six years on and off the market. Irene Agajanian of Coldwell Banker San Marino confirmed the undisclosed sale price.
The May 19 luncheon of the Republican Women's Club of San Marino at the Huntington Ritz Carlton features Glenn Spencer on immigration and Terry Graham on Proposition 227. Spencer leads Voice of Citizens Together and opposes bilingual policy. Graham builds a coalition against native language education and argues Proposition 227 could override Prop 187.
USC will confer an honorary doctor of science degree on Edward C. Stone PhD Friday morning. Stone, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Pasadena and vice president at Caltech, is a prominent space science figure with a long Caltech career.
Saturday luncheon program at high noon May 16 will feature Dr. Omer Whitman detailing Ina Coolbrith California’s first public librarian and first poet laureate. Whitman traces her 1841 Nauvoo birth to 1929 San Francisco death, noting her ties to Bret Harte and acclaim as Golden Gate Poet.
Louis Foods, located at Sierra Madre Boulevard and San Pasqual Street, will reopen as Sav-On Drug Store in early summer. The former grocery store, once popular with northern San Marino residents, also ran a successful catering business before filing for Chapter 11 on January 29, 1996 following a failed expansion into West Covina. The West Covina outlet faltered amid cash shortfalls and a 1995 sale attempt to Gelson's, which collapsed in April 1996 when the escrow was canceled.
San Marino Chamber of Commerce board unanimously approved a new mission at the April 28 meeting. The statement aims to promote economic well being, advocate for members, and provide community leadership, guiding programs in 1998.
