San Marino High golf team ends season with 12 wins

The San Marino High School golf team led by Coach Bill Stevens finished the season with 12 wins in 16 matches. Austin Buffum led scoring with a 76 and won the League Individual Tournament with 74. Scott Allan claimed the Vice President's Tournament while Buffum earned the Los Angeles Sportsman Show longest drive award.

Requiem Held For L. J. Herbert

A requiem mass was said Tuesday morning for Lawrence Joseph Herbert of Seamore Drive who died Friday May 1. Born in Cleveland Ohio he had lived in San Marino since 1942. Survived by daughter Mrs. John A Legge Jr of Okotoks Alberta Canada sister Margaret E Herbert of Garrison Maryland and two grandchildren. Requiem at SS Felicitas and Perpetua Church and interment in Calvary Cemetery.

April building valuations fall from last year in San Marino

The San Marino Building Department reports April 1964 valuations totaled 98 025, down from about 155 000 in April 1963. The year’s drop stems mainly from no new gas stations and a residence built in 1963, despite seven pools and 55 000 in additions. There are 102 vacant lots, 4433 homes, 118 commercial buildings and 799 pools reported.

Rotary Silver Jubilee Draws 100 Members to Celebration

San Marino Rotary Club marked its 25th anniversary at the La Canada Country Club with over 100 Rotarians and guests. Citations honored George Gantus John Hoffman and Hamilton Stevens for 25 years of perfect attendance, as District Governor Chet Baldwin praised the club’s standing. The event featured a cavalcade of presidents and a humorous talk by Barney Barnett.

GOP Voters Lead SM Democrats 9-1 in Registration Figures

Registration data from San Marino shows 7881 Republicans and 862 Democrats out of 8897 voters for the June primary. The Registrar of Voters Benjamin S. Hite notes increases since January 1 with 28 miscellaneous party members and 126 undeclared. County totals show Democrats 1,562,967 and Republicans 1,095,067.

San Marino High School selects two juniors to attend California Boy's State and California Girl's State workshops. John Duling, 17, will join Boy's State in Sacramento June 22 to 29, sponsored by San Marino Post 239. Over $300 in appliances and lawn equipment reported stolen from the home of Donald W. Craig on Huntington Drive. A neighbor reported a white air conditioner and a lawn mower plus a power tool were missing, according to police.

New Window Hours Set For SM Post Office

The San Marino Branch Post Office adopts new hours after a federal economy drive. Weekday window service runs 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday is reduced to an emergency window until noon for stamps parcel post registry and COD only.
