Brown and a High School student, won a Thomas J. Watson Memorial Merit Scholarship, while Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fulton Wright and a Westridge School student, won a National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation administers the program, with about 325 awards this year and total commitments around $8 million by NMSC, plus private sponsors pushing the in-force value beyond $15 million. Wright plans Pomona College. Brown intends to study physics at the California Institute of Technology and pursue nuclear physics.

Thieves Strips Car From Local Auto Owner
Thieves stripped the vehicle of Lee Roy Jerome Webb of 926 Palm Avenue San Gabriel on Saturday evening. The auto was left on the high school parking lot minus tools and other items. In a separate incident Homer Acuna Sota of 417 South Elm Alhambra was injured when his truck collided with another car on Lorain Road last Friday and he was taken to Huntington Hospital.

Police nab two teen burglars described as smart
Two 17 year old boys from Alhambra and Chicago were arrested after police linked them to three break ins on St Albans Cumberland and Bedford roads. Officers recovered only watches and radios. the suspects claimed they planned to make a quick buck and resisted at first asking for lawyers.
