Interest grows as Pasadena Area Girl Scout Council announces a rally at 10 a.m. Wednesday May 7 at the San Marino Girl Scout House. Mrs LeRoy Lorenz camp committee chair will discuss the new Angeles Forest camp near Chilao and summer dates. Dorothy Hande and Mrs Robert Creswell will speak on programs and objectives. An update on the building fund will be given. Mothers and friends are urged to attend.
San Marino's Red Cross unit, active ten months, operates from Huntington School and the library annex. Under Mrs Ruth Turner the sewing group meets Fridays making garments for children and adults, with 52 to 78 items monthly sent to the Pasadena Chapter. Knitting chairmen Mrs William Hertrich and Mrs Wilbur Lindblom lead many women in knitting. yarn is distributed at headquarters and work can be done at home.
The San Marino Council of Parents and Teachers completed its first year with officer elections at Huntington School. Mrs. R. G. Kenyon was elected president, with Mrs. H. M. Rousselot as vice president and other officers named. Installation was by Mrs. L. A. Norris of Seal Beach.
San Marino Woman's Club presents Guild Day at Huntington School gymnasium starting 3 30 tomorrow with palms flowers and leis creating a tropical setting. Drama Guild performs three act mystery Ladies is Waiting in evening, after dinner 5 30 to 7 30, featuring Mrs W J Liddell as the bride and a cast including Mrs A D Beman Mrs Douglas Mattocks Mrs Ralph Wardwell and others.
Frank L. Shlaudeman reported a unique theft involving his female Labrador Retriever valued at about $300. The dog, cared for by maid Mrs. Dailey Williams in Los Angeles, disappeared while the owners were away, with fences at both properties preventing an escape by the dog.
Three automobile crashes occurred within two hours on Saturday night between 7 and 9 30 p m keeping local police busy. No injuries or serious damage were reported. The Huntington Granada intersection saw two crashes with a first call at 7 22 p m. F G Kunce of 30 North Chapel Alhambra collided with B J Partsch driver of a South Pasadena San Marino High School board president’s son living at 1630 Milan South Pasadena. Parts car was towed.
The San Marino Woman's Club meets at Huntington School Auditorium on Wednesday May 7 with a 50 member quorum. President's annual report and committee updates finish before Marguerite Harrison speaks at 2 p m on World Events from travel and interviews with current headlines. The Travel Guild holds its last meeting of the year at 2 p m May 5 at Mrs Lewis Potter’s home, 2174 Melville drive, featuring color photos of Islands of the Pacific with sound.
The theme The Americas in Flowers was chosen for Pasadena Rose Tournament pageant. San Marino plans to enter yearly or biennially and start early for next New Year’s float. The San Marino Tribune offers ten dollars for best float design kept with the theme. Designs will be judged by a Tribune committee. contest closes Monday June 2, 1941.
Mr and Mrs Stewart H Patton of 1925 Euclid Avenue reported a burglary Sunday night between 5 and 9 30 pm. A hole was cut in a screen and an unlocked kitchen window raised to gain entry. Several drawers were rifled but only a cameo ring and two cigars were stolen.
San Marino Garden Club announces four informal round table meetings to help smooth pre garden year plans and planting issues. Directed by Armin Thurnber, sessions run May 8 May 15 May 22 and June 5 at members' homes starting 10 o'clock AM. City Park supporters invited.
At Rotary 107th District Conference in Hotel Huntington 1 200 Rotarians and wives attended. About 150 San Marinans gathered Friday night April 25 to honor San Marino's 28th anniversary of incorporation and honor Frank Collins editor publisher of the San Marino Tribune.
Flying Officer Frank Thompson of the Royal Air Force on a six month leave visits San Marino and later Los Angeles. He served 14 months in the air service and saw action at Dun Kirk as navigator and chief bomber. Thompson, 23, left Barclay's Bank in London to join the RAF at 21. He recalled Dunkirk as a horror and, wounded in the knee, steered his aircraft home after his pilot was killed.
Editor Franklin W. Collins of the San Marino Tribune is celebrated on the city’s 28th birthday with tribute to his career. The honorary doctor of law from Syracuse highlights his service as assistant to the U.S. attorney general for 17 years and his advocacy for presidents McKinley Roosevelt and Taft.
