San Marino Planning Commission approved the Huntington Library project after two meetings. Opponents urged attendance limits, gate plans, and parking reductions citing traffic noise and air pollution, while the library offered traffic studies and a westward parking shift.

Diane C Harwich of San Marino High School won the zone level Lions Club Student Speaker Contest held March 21 in the San Gabriel Valley. She advances to the regional competition April 6 at the Santa Fe Inn in El Monte. Local residents may attend the dinner and contest for 8 dollars.
San Marino’s 00-yard free relay Wood Grant Scannell Ganiel posted 3:07.87 to set a CIF record and win All-American recognition as Titan 3A CIF-SS champions at ELAC. Scannell, nursing a knee injury, won the 200 free. Wood the 50 and 100 free. Ganiel placed twice in 200 and 100 free. Medley relay with Simpson Francis Brad also eyed All-American. Weber topped diving with 395.65 points as San Marino led the final scores ahead of El Dorado, Servite, Canyon and Warren.
