Myron E. Smith, 33, Grand Orator of the California Masons, will address the San Marino Masonic Lodge at the Stated Meeting on April 3 at the local Masonic Temple. His talk, The Scottish Rite in Free Masonry, follows his role as president of the Scottish Rite Cathedral Association advancing a new temple on Wilshire Boulevard. Attendees may attend dinner at 6 45 p.m. or the program at 7 15 p.m. Reservations for dinner via Ken Hooten at Cumberland 3 3800.

San Marino High School senior Louis Hoyt leads Southern California in high jump after a 6 ft 6 in clear at the Glendale Relays. He has cleared 6 ft 8 in in practice, marking a record pace for the season.
District Attorney William B. McKesson of Adair street is recuperating at Queen of Angeles Hospital in Los Angeles after surgery a week ago. He will remain hospitalized for another week with no visitors yet allowed. He is convalescing very nicely according to his office.
Germaine Haney longtime Tribune columnist died last Thursday after a long illness in Van Nuys. The North Hollywood service was held at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Chapel. Her husband James and son Richard in the Army, plus sister Mrs Bradford Bishop and nephew Bradford Bishop Jr are noted among readers who followed her travel pieces and No Reservations volume. She valued readers and travels across Europe and the Orient. San Marinans will miss her gentle presence and connection to community.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held Tuesday for a million dollar Ralphs Market to be located at the corner of Huntington Drive and San Gabriel Boulevard. The 30,000 square foot one story supermarket will cost over 1 million dollars and serve as the chain’s 42nd Southern California location. Completion is set for September 21 this year.
Robert D. Nelson was chosen for a key executive post at the Los Angeles Times as vice president for sales and head of display circulation classified departments and the Times Mirror Syndicate. He has been at the paper since June as manager and previously joined in February 1960 as assistant to the marketing manager. he and his wife Georgia have two daughters Sandra and Roberta.
Mrs. Merritt Hosmer of San Carlos newly elected president of the California Federation of Republican Women made her first Southern California visit after election. She spoke on What is Happening to Our Republic at the San Marino Women's Republican Club meeting at the Huntington Sheraton Hotel. Her talk appears in the Congressional Record. Hosmer succeeds Mrs. R. G. Kenyon as Federation president, with Mrs. McClarty Harbison presiding and Mrs. Gerald Twist as program chairman.

Richard Sprague leads a Citizens Committee formed by more than 40 San Marino residents to back Bruce Alexander for reelection to the San Marino Unified School Board. Alexander, a long-time resident and former manufacturing company president, is noted as the senior member on the five person board.

Bruce Alexander says San Marino schools need stronger teaching staff broader curriculum and higher student conduct. A nonpartisan public forum hosted by the PTA Council and City Club will be April 10 at 8 p.m. in Huntington Auditorium with all four candidates, moderated by Dr John B Wilson, answering questions to inform voters.

The San Marino High School PTA led event called Operation Work Day will take place on April 26 with Prometheans in charge. Students volunteer for one afternoon to fund the school scholarship and foster community ties. Volunteers may request a student worker through the high school.
San Marino Chamber of Commerce will select Miss San Marino to compete in the Miss San Gabriel Valley pageant on May 20 in South Pasadena. The local San Marino contest will be held in late April for residents of the San Marino School District age 18 to 28. Call Atlantic 16138 for details.
Thirty six students from Keio Junior High School Tokyo visited San Marino High School on Monday during a three day Southern California trip. The group also toured the Huntington Botanical Gardens. The tour was authorized by Japan's Ministry of Education with local official cooperation.
The San Marino High School Stadium Committee will meet Wednesday April 12 at 7 30 p.m. in the School District Administration Building Wendell Wilson co chair announces at their last meeting Wilson noted the committee was in substantial agreement on pre stressed concrete work.
