Marvin W. Buron, vice president and manager of Security First National Bank, was elected president of the San Marino Chamber of Commerce at a Tuesday meeting. He will succeed James E. McCormick of Shenandoah.
The Newport-Balboa area PTA First District and Council join with law enforcement to urge adult supervision, hotel reservations, and caution against loitering. They remind parents of legal responsibility for minors and promote a safe Spring Vacation 1968. Also noted are new officers Paul Lowrey Jr. and Alexander Smith with fellow directors elected for year terms.
Bob Murley earned All CIF and first team honors after a 15.6 point season. He was also named to the Rio Hondo League and San Gabriel Valley first teams and selected for the All CIF Tournament Team. The graduating senior hopes to attend Princeton in the fall.

George Putnam, TV news caster and editorialist, will receive the National Association of Pro Americas Constitutional Award at a noon luncheon on Thursday April 4 in the Viennese Room of the Huntington Sheraton. Dr. R. J. Rushdoony will speak on the Monetary Crisis, with Pro America a Seattle founded group since 1933 coordinating a national event. Local arrangements are led by Mrs E David Shooshan as chairman and others handling reservations for San Marino and Pasadena.
Lauren C Shaffer Jr a junior in the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine has been awarded a 1466 fellowship to assist for 12 weeks. He will depart in June for the Driefontein Mission in Gwelo Rhodesia to help at a 100 bed hospital and a 300 bed tuberculosis sanatorium under supervision by Leo R Brown MD PACS. He will examine treat patients assist with surgery and aid clinical research projects.
The Latin Club of San Marino High School hosted the California Junior Classical League 13th annual convention over March 22 weekend. San Marino won the team title by 20 points as delegates ratified a new constitution. Mayor Harry Hitchcock and other officials welcomed attendees. Jack Carrington guided ceremonies as new officers were installed and retiring officials honored.
Federal Bureau of Investigation figures show total serious crime rising 16 percent in 1967 from 1966 with large cities and suburban areas posting pronounced gains. Western states averaged a 15 percent rise as crime patterns shift, while San Marino’s 1967 major offenses mostly match 1966 levels except commercial burglary which rose from 30 to 38 offenses.
