The San Marino High School Concert Band and Orchestra will present their annual Spring Concert on Tuesday evening March 31 at 7 30 p m in the Neher Auditorium. The public is welcome and admission is free.
South Pasadena San Marino YMCA hosts sign ups for 11 week summer camps and a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday April 4 at the 1605 Garfield Avenue facility. Camps cover K through 6 with various tracks and a half day option during Summer School. Activities include horseback riding archery crafts hiking fishing backpacking and a YMCA Tumblers demonstration. Fire department and DARE information will be provided along with fingerprinting obstacle course and a stamp card reward. For details call (626) 799 9119.
The Pasadena Symphony unveils a youth ticket program for the 1998 99 season to encourage families. Children 5 12 pay $3 and 12 17 pay $7.50 for any seat in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium with no separate children's section.
Terri Pollitt a former president of the San Marino Schools Foundation was named chairman of the Citizens Oversight Committee during the committee s March 19 meeting Lee Haslam was named vice president Pollitt and Haslam helped develop the Facilities Master Plan by participating in committees with the school district and Osborn Architects
The Chinese School Of San Marino offers two adult courses beginning April 21 with sessions each Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 2425 Huntington Drive San Marino. One course focuses on social and business conversations and basic listening speaking with Chinese cultural context. The other covers common restaurant and family conversations with elements of brush painting calligraphy and tea ceremony and teaches Chinese phonetic systems.
Carnevale Di Valentine is set for Saturday April 25 featuring Silent and Live Auctions a Pinots chef prepared dinner by Chastian Shaffer and dancing by Dr. Feelgood and the Interns of Love a nine piece band with two vocalists all benefiting the auction committee led by Colony Abbott and Jeanie Caldwell Prizes include parent vacations to Hilton Hawaiian Village Mauna Kea San Hilton Beach and Tennis Mammoth Penthouse plus dining experiences by Isaac and Celia Hung Karmen Lily Kafar and Burger Lee Valentine Event page A-4.
Yale's The Spizziwinks, a 15 member glee group from New Haven, performed folk and contemporary songs at Southwestern Academy during spring break. The ensemble wore tropical shirts and joined students for a barbecue lunch after the hour long concert, following a Radio City Music Hall appearance.
San Marino Unified School District named a Blue Ribbon winner by Expansion Management Magazine for high student outcomes with below average spending. Superintendent Jack Rose cites strong performance and low costs as the district gains national recognition while the board selects a new financial advisor to seek savings for taxpayers.
The City of San Marino invites residents to apply for three year seats on the Public Library Board of Trustees starting June 1 1998 through May 31 2001. Applications due by Friday April 17 at noon sent to City Hall c/o City Clerk Carol Robb 2200 Huntington Drive.
San Marino resident C. Joseph Chang was installed as a member of the San Gabriel Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America 1998 board of directors. He was named District Chair of the Mission Amigos District serving San Gabriel Alhambra and Monterey Park. Chang is assistant administrator at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center and earned a master’s in Health Administration from Tulane University.
