San Marino High School drops Rio Hondo contest 3-2 in extra innings after tying 1-1 in the seventh. South Pasadena rallies with a two-run eighth, aided by a fielder's choice by Terry Kiser that moves Tom Hutton to second, and a single by Steve Barton. Titan JV also defeated Bell Gardens last week, then fell to South Pasadena 4-2.
Members of San Marino's Old Mill Program Committee met with Henry S. Clifford of the California Historical Society to provide fuller information on the landmark ahead of recommendations. The committee, appointed by Mayor Hitchcock, has studied possible uses since the city acquired the property in November 1962 and has held meetings and field trips with local historians and museums.
The Exchange Club of San Marino sponsors a talent contest at San Marino High School Neher Auditorium on April 3 at 7 p.m. Entry categories include instrumental vocal and dance with acts from one to four members. Junior and senior divisions defined by ages 14 and 19. contestants must attend local San Marino schools. Judges are prominent arts teachers. prizes include trophies and $500 in Savings Bonds. John Scott SMHS graduate and 1962 winner will be guest soloist.
James R. Hazel a San Marino policeman was among 35 graduates from nine departments finishing the Peace Officers' Basic Training course at Pasadena City College Friday.
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce will hold elections March 31 to choose officers and directors for the next year. Installations will occur at the April 14 dinner at Woody and Eddy’s Restaurant with Mayor Harry Hitchcock conducting the ceremony. Nominees include Robert A. Barlow C Wyatt Bonner Frank W. Dessel Jr Rockwood C Nelson and Edward D Neuhoff. The Mother Minstrels will entertain and Robert R Stevens will MC. Pendleton Tool Inc president Morris B Pendleton will speak. Non members may attend. SMHS wins the Baldwin Park Distance Carnival for the second straight year defeating Monrovia Alhambra San Gabriel and La Habra. Rick Wimpress set a meet record with 10 03.1 in the two mile, leading Titans as multiple athletes posted strong times across divisions.
Goldwater for President opens at 1612 Chelsea Road with no fooling from 10 a m to 4 p m on opening day. Mrs L I Blennerhassett chairs the event with co chairs Grant Kenyon Gerald F Twist precinct leaders Mrs George P Kinkle and Mrs Ron Kissam guiding volunteers and publicity by Judith Jones. Treasurer James E Mead and a large committee express support for a conservativ e platform promising to restore government to the people and pride at home and prestige abroad.
Dr Clarence H Folsom of Winthrop Road is appointed to the third rotation team of the teaching training hospital ship S S Hope and will leave for Guayaquil Ecuador this Saturday to join the medical staff. He will spend April and May attached to the floating medical center. Rotators serve about two months without pay and augment the ship s permanent medical staff of nearly 85 physicians nurses and paramedical personnel.
Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb and reports to Peter and the beloved disciple. They enter the tomb and believe he must rise. Mary encounters Jesus who calls her by name before sending her to tell the others. Later Jesus appears to the gathered disciples.
Earl M Daniels of Circle spearheaded a local committee for the Goldwater Diner event drawing zeal and support from residents. The informal gathering attracted a modest slate of spectators and showcased community involvement driven by enthusiastic activism.
Storms delivered 1.8 inches of rain by Tuesday in San Marino. When added to 2.5 inches recorded earlier in 1964 through January, the total so far for the week stands as a wetter spell.
A jade ring valued at 1500 dollars was reported stolen from Frans A Larson’s Monterey home with the living room window left ajar. Police say burglars searched but missed other valuables. Separately Virginia Byers on Brentwood Road reported blue Kneis sel skis and poles valued around 160 dollars taken from her garage.
Easter week closes with numerous services across San Marino churches. San Marino Community Church hosts 8, 9:30 and 11 am services with extra in the Fellowship Hall. St. Edmund's Episcopal Church offers 6, 7, 9 and 11 am Holy Communion. Choirs from St. Edmund's and others perform Handel and Purcell selections. Multiple congregations hold sermons on The Resurrection with special music.
John E. Lederman 16 of San Gabriel sustained a neck whip lash when his westbound car stopped for a red signal and was hit from behind by Marguerita M. Richardson 45 of San Gabriel at Huntington drive and Winston avenue. Lederman was taken to a physician. both vehicles were towed from the scene.
About 50 members of the San Marino High School cast of The Music Man will entertain San Marino Women's Club members next Wednesday April 1 at 1 p.m. The supervising director Paul Clopper said cast members will perform numbers from the Meredith Wilson musical at the Women's Club building.
Los Angeles County Tax Collector Harold J Ostly says unpaid real estate taxes were due February 1 1964 and must be paid by April 10 to avoid penalty.
