Appelate Court Upholds San Marino Truck Ordinance
The appellate division of the Superior Court on March 18 upheld Judge William Fox's ruling that San Marino's truck ordinance is constitutional. Carl Leigh of Rizzio Trucking Co. challenged the city’s ban on large trucks. An amendment proposes raising limits on Huntington Drive to 16,000 pounds and designates lightweight and restricted streets.

Funeral services and interment in Minneapolis are arranged for Christian Wilbur Lee of Shakespeare Drive who died at his home March 19. Turner Stevens and Turner of Alhambra conduct arrangements. A native of Walers Norway, he had lived in San Marino two years. He leaves wife Irene, daughter Barbara Eastman of Los Angeles, two sons Robert W. of San Gabriel and Wilber E. of Deerfield, three brothers Ole of Mankato Thing of Annandale and Nels of Cedar Rapids, and five grandchildren.

First SM Fire Chief Dies At Palmdale
C. Copley, the first San Marino fire chief, died Tuesday morning at his Palmdale ranch. He led the department from 1923 to 1944 and built a strong unit with a record low fire loss by 1934. He noted San Marino’s politics-free environment influenced his choice of work.

Peters Receives Expedition Bid With National Geographical Society
Robert Peters of Virginia Road Whittier College geology major named as field assistant for a NS Geographical Society expedition to Lemon Creek Glacier near Juneau Alaska this summer. He will conduct seismic and photogrammetric work and travel from Los Angeles to Seattle then Juneau to join the team. Peters studies under Dr Beach Leighton and leads the Whittier Geology Club and student body. He is president of the Knights and member of the Lancer Social Society.

Annexation Hearing Scheduled for March 29
Final decision on the proposed annexation of five acres from the San Gabriel School District to the San Marino School District will be made at a hearing before the County Board of Supervisors in Los Angeles on March 29 at 10 a.m. The petition by Paul Armstrong was rejected by the San Marino Board of Education, with opposition from San Gabriel. Armstrong indicated he would not press the matter. Representatives of the San Marino Board of Education plan to attend.
