Palmer Conner told the San Marino City Club a vivid history of the ranchos in Los Angeles and San Marino, drawing from dusty records and archives. He described the Santa Anita grant of 13,000 acres given two years earlier by Governor Alvarado, noting its origin in the original land grant.
San Marino police report a burglary at the D. C. Parker residence 1833 West Haven on Sunday evening. Lieut. Glenn McClung says entry came via a torn rear window screen and unlocked sash, with the home ransacked and items including a black leather suit case, coats and dresses, a radio set, spoons, and jewelry taken.
Mrs Louise T Gerdine of 1201 Winston Ave San Marino received the first prize in the drama contest by the Sa California Press Club of Los Angeles at the club's annual banquet held Friday evening March 15. Gerdine recently moved to San Marino after years abroad and has authored numerous plays essays and poems with several productions across Southern California and the east. She also won first prize in the Women’s Press Club contest for adult short stories for That’s What Life’s For.
Congressman J H Hoeppel linked to a trade deal during a trip to Annapolis with government implications. The report notes charges and political contention surrounding the action.
A motion to disband the Stoneman P T A and merge with Huntington P T A was defeated 4 to 1 at the March Stoneman P T A meeting. Mrs L A Arzt had appointed a fact finding committee to study disbanding and forming a new combined group. State president Mrs C H Turner spoke on P T A ideals and the national and state organizations.
San Marino stages its second Court of Honor since forming the independent Community Committee. The 8 pm event at Huntington School Cafeteria features Troop 1 opening, Troop 3 closing, and Troop 2 presenting the musical program. Officials from City Club and American Legion Post 239 share sponsorship with the three troops.
Mab Copeland, lineman, will deliver her third address in the law section series at 11 on Wednesday March 23. At 1 30 the drama section hosts Suzanne Throop on Exits and Entrance. Throop tied to Mills College UC and is literature director for the Delphian Society after student abroad study.
Porter Bruck of 527 Winthrop Road will seek re election to the San Marino School Board of Trustees with no opposition. He fills Luther T Bradford's term for three years. Election at Huntington Schools on Friday March 29. W Heath of South Pasadena San Marino High School Board also runs uncontested for eight year term. San Marinans will vote in the high school election.
The San Marino South Pasadena Junior High School PTA will meet Tuesday evening March 26 in the school library. A forum on Appropriate Social Activities for junior high students will be led by G Derwood Baker with Verne Wilson of the Institute of Family Relation and parent representatives.
The San Marino Players present a modern comedy by Mina Maxfield and Ron Colby directed by Paul Maxie with a cast including Ethylia Steele and Marjorie Gowan. Opening Monday April 1, the production runs two weeks at the San Marino Studio Theatre with six local San Marinans in the cast.
