Lee Harbottle of Monrovia, active in civic affairs in the San Gabriel Valley, plans retirement after 14 years as a Tournament of Roses contributor. The Harbottle family Amber and Gary will stay in Monrovia until moving to Bend.
San Marino High School track coach Fortune Gordien leads the Titans to a decisive relay victory at Temple City Relays, topping five rival teams in a strong showing by the varsity squad.
Funeral services for Dr P Martin Baker founding pastor of San Marino Community Church were held yesterday March 2 at the church with officiants Rev Dr Robert W Mc Clellan and Rev Harry T Scherer presiding.
Students are chosen for the contest based on their ability to write clearly and effectively and their mastery of reading and grammar and construction skills.
Miss Sanders advances to the finals of the Marian contest in the library area with two entrants. Judging will be by a State Citizen's Committee. Her nomination was supported by library co workers PTA Reading Chairs authors and Friends of the Library as honors praised author Harlan son.

In two dual meets last week San Marino Varsity Track defeated Bellflower 90 to 27 and Call hurdies and sprints 81 to 3. Bill Wright vaulted 11 feet. In the California meet Jim Arnold raised his high jump record to 6 feet 6 inches. Mark Vander hoof led the B squad with the first.
Dr. Max Rafferty addressed Rotarians on March 14 about Education's Sore Spots. He outlined five conflict points and warned of dangers from incautious literary exposure. Rafferty urged balanced curricula and urged future speakers with equal expertise to present opposing views.
Realtors urge opposition to a housing bill recently passed by the Senate. The measure restricts a home seller’s freedom to choose buyers or renters after December 31 1988, drawing criticism from real estate leaders including Congressman Glen P Lipscomb.
Team managers plan practice games to finalize lineups. Through April, six teams will play twice weekly with the Talteko and Deorg tours running April 2 to 29.
A fire on La Mirada avenue at 11 02 p m March 18 was extinguished. The housekeeper raised the alarm after discovering damage. the blaze left the home heavily filled with smoke but caused no injuries.
Information sheets for parent paid pupil transportation for the 1968 69 school year will be issued by bus drivers to all pupils now riding the bus. Issue will be made the week of March 25. Parents new to kindergarten next year should fill out a survey sheet now if interested in bus transportation.
The San Marino Community Players enter the final week of rehearsals for Never Too Late. Opening night is scheduled for March 27 under director Millie Mack, former group president.
City Council on March 13 asked City Manager Richard Malcolm to prepare a study on Lacy Park concerns. Residents worry about the park’s visitors and control, with talk of post closing gatherings and stricter police patrols. Council supports residents’ right to enjoy the park with peace of mind.
James G Bounds vice president and director of Fluor Ltd died at Huntinton Memorial Hospital on March 16. A Paola Kansas native and war engineer he joined Fluor 1939 and rose through fields in the United States and Canada. He served in the Army, retired as Lt Colonel, and returned to Fluor later becoming president and director of Fluor Canada Ltd and then vice president construction. Funeral services were private.
The Tennis Foundation will hold an open meeting Monday evening March 26 at 8 in the High School Little Theater. President Stanley Clark will present the foundation proposal to build tennis courts in Lacy and explain details. Officers listed include Clark, Scott, Wachtel, Booth, Trotter, Brossy, Koeing, urging residents to attend.
City Council voted unanimously to allocate 4500 dollars from gas tax funds for a four phase traffic signal monitoring system on Huntington Drive. The current 1999 system at San Marino Avenue coordinates crossings but causes delays at other Huntington intersections. The proposed system aims to control all Huntington drive crossings more accurately with an estimated total cost of about 4000 dollars including the study. county funds will cover half and the city covers the rest from gas tax.
City Council voted unanimously on March 13 to approve a final payment of 4000 dollars to Peter Salata Construction Inc for the Huntington Drive storm drain project. An additional 2588.31 dollars was approved for three items of extra work including removal of an old concrete abutment, relocation of two water lines, and removal of concrete pavement beneath asphalt, completing the 40000 dollar project.
